Damn Skunks!

They got my dog again last night. This is the second time in 3 months that he got sprayed. He is an indoor dog but we have a fenced in yard so he likes to be out there in the evenings.

Well, he is NOT happy when he has to spend the entire night outside like he did last night. He'll get bath number 2 in peroxide, baking soda and dish soap tonight.

Last time it took about a week of being outside (and 4 baths) before the smell went away. That time I actually saw him get sprayed directly in the face. I thought it was a cat at first but quickly realized what it was. So did he!

 

That stinks!

 

I've heard tomato juice works really well at removing skunk smell.

It also makes your dog RED!

Tomato juice can permanately stain the fur of a dog - so I've heard. I don't really care and used it (though sparingly) last time he was sprayed. It didn't do much.

The formula you are using is a good one, Massengil works as well (believe it or not).

Do you know where the skunks are nesting? They need to "move".

 

Oh man...I came across 4 or 5 of em out at Bartlett Lake a couple weeks ago! I just ran like hell!!!

 

Who the fuck figured out that Massengil neutralizes skunk oil?

 

Wow...that's a new one! I guess I need to do some shopping in the feminine hygiene department. I just googled it and it looks to be a tried and true odor remover. Thanks!

They need to do more than move...they need a damn bullet in the side of their skull (or a Bridgestone tread pattern across their back). I have kids, dogs and cats - they don't need to be around here.

I'm putting some mothballs under my porch this weekend to keep them out. I think that is where the one last night was trying to hide.

 

^^Cool. You should be able to pop them pretty easy at night, generally speaking they are pretty brazen.

You don't want one spraying your kids. We had some at my work living in a hole under a hatch way, it was a pretty deep hole and you couldn't see straight down into it. We took a propane tank and a hose off of an older grille, cut the end of the hose off and stuck it into the hole and turned the propane tank on, while throwing a board across the hole.

The hole was filled in the next day, no more skunks.
