    i dont have a standard, just curious about this thread...low coolant as in antifreeze correct?

    wait he might mean that, what would having a manual transmission have to with coolant? hell i dont know...i was just wondering that wouldnt your engine running hot or hotter than normal suggest you have low coolant? thus your temperature gauge may in way be pre-warning to low coolant

    I meant an owners manual. Low coolant is antifreeze. I have an Automatic.

    Not sure about the Tacoma, but my '84 Celica had a sensor that shut the motor off when it was low on antifreeze/coolant.

    One freezing cold morning on the way to work, the top of the radiator blew off. The engine shut down almost immediately.

    After I replaced the radiator, the car wouldn't start until I refilled the system.

    My motor did shut off... at 275 degrees ;-)

    I drove it for half an hour, or, 24 miles with no fluid. The gauge showed normal running temperature the entire time.

    I just check my gauges as well as I could, and there is no low coolant warning light.
