Anyone 6' or taller tried sleeping in the cab of your double cab 1st gen? It sucks. I can't make a sleeping platform in the bed due to it being loaded with traps and gear. I'm thinking of a sleeping platform for inside the cab. Seats folded forward, the platform will be hinged at several points so it'll fold up to the space the size of the back seat.

    Anyone done anything like that?

Now sure the cab is much more comfortable? First gen DC is pretty damn tight.

Night time temps will be single digit or lower. That might be an expensive tent or sleeping bag

I'm picturing my head by the passenger side vents on the dash with my feet by the rear driver side window.

Standby.. you'll need ventilation in the cab to sleep in which means you'll need at least one window cracked to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Single digit temps outside will be single digit temps inside. There's far more to consider than how to lay flat if your plan is camping in extreme temps.

Having your body parts near the glass won't be comfortable either.

Hahaha I agree. I'll be trapping about 5 hours from home. No services, no cell reception, etc.

I've done it ONCE. Curled up in the back seat. I know it's not a realistic option but I'd wake up and run the truck with the heater every couple hours. Lots of blankets. The only thing I'd change is to have the ability to straighten my legs

You could totally build one around a twin mattress with good insulation and a 12v heater that runs off a battery. Another plus would be more cargo space. Something like this

For now I have ordered a RTT. I'm excited about it. Can't afford the time or space for a trailer yet. Someday.

Haha my bad... I was talking to Trapper. I was thinking about a RTT but I would rather save to build a trailer like you suggested. I already have plans and how I'm going to do it worked out. This is of course after my 5 million other projects get finished.

Roof Top Tent. For the money a rtt set up would cost, I'd rather have a small trailer, especially in single digit weather.

One can never have too many light bars.
You're better off with buying a sub-zero sleeping bag and using a tent. I'm 5'11 and I slept in the back of my 2nd gen double cab when it was about 25 degrees out and it was one of the worst nights of my life.

I just slept in my DC, in the bed, with an air mattress, diagonally.
I was quite comfortable, but I am only 5'7".
A good bag + tent may be your most cost effective short term solution.

I'm 6', 230 lbs, and I've just reclined the passenger seat all the way, even as a side sleeper. Get a bunch of blankets or a good sleeping bag and a pillow. The seats lean pretty far back, and with the low seat height relative to the floorboard, you're almost flat, and you can come really close to straightening your legs. As far as ventilation, you won't suffocate with all the windows closed, but you may have some condensation on the windows. And then you can turn your truck on to run the heater if you have to, without having to contort yourself around a platform.

If it's just going to be you riding in the truck, why not pull the passenger front seat and the back seat and build an L shaped platform?
