lift questions, need help

goodluck which ever way you go, its going to look great, and there's alot of good people on here to help answer ?'s for you, trust me I had lots and they all were answered.

 

you will need 5100's in the rear if you get the aal, stock shocks are to short, you will notice when you off road or when you go into parking lots. i found out some time ago. if you want to do it right try and find some used fox or king coilovers then you will never upgrade. i did three times and i am done with the front.

 

Here is what mine looks like. 5100's @1.75" & tsb rear springs.

 

What if you were to buy 5100s all around then purchase the Toytec "Best Seller 3" kit" which includes new front OME coilovers and a rear Add-a-leaf...

Will those conflict or compliment?

AAL will get you 1.5" lift or 2" depending on which AAL you go with. The TSB springs will net you 1" of lift after they settle. It's just a matter of how far you wanna go & what you're doing up front.

Now wait, isn't the first question you are supposed ask the guy is, "what are you using the truck for?"

If the guy was to just slap on 5100s and proceed to offroad, he'd be pretty upset, right? My assumption from reading is that the shocks would get too hot too quick for that sort of action, and that's when you start needing packages that have coilovers, which leads you into the entry level of Toytec Ultimate and OME.
The Toytec Ultimate gives adjustment options and a preassembled package, the OME offers lower price and better recovery rates for the springs.
From there you can go into higher end with ICON, SAW, or Fox being the more common choices.


Please chime in people, I'm with GeoTaco on this one. Do it once, do it right.

shouldn't it warrant that when combined w/ 4 5100s this would give you a better "offroad ride"...?

 

that would be ok with the 5100's, your ride will be fine off road. I had 5100's and did a ton of off road. You can also buy some sway a way coilovers for around 650-700 new which are a great coilover. but for budget wise looks like you have it figured out.


how many miles do you have on you truck, if miles are low you don't need to change springs.

 

toytec ultimate uses a 5100 so you will gain nothing. best to buy a coilover but if that is not in the budget then go 5100's. i off road with alot of people that just have 5100's and no one has problems.

 

There is nothing wrong with "just slapping on some 5100's" to do some moderate off-roading. 5100's do not equal not done right. The op never stated his intentions for the lift.

 

Great... for ME I'm not looking to do any serious offroading as I have a OR Prerunner but interested in looking for a meaner/better stance with larger tires and some additional "trail riding" suspension.

The UCAs were brought up... how will that affect that particular set up if I didn't purchase them? What benefits do they provide?

forgot to mention, what is the added benefit for going with the 5100s plus OME coilovers vs. 5100s and stock coilovers?

 

So is the other stuff just marketing hype or is there a real difference, and what is that difference, and when do you need to consider it?

I have a killer deal that I was going to jump on for a SAW kit, but if there's no sense in it, I could still save $1k.

Any answers on the OME coils with 5100s vs stock coils with 5100s...? Also, whats the advantage of the UCAs? Is it just proper alignment...

 

UCAs can correct alignment issues and provide longer travel (i.e., vertical motion of the tire)

 

uca's will correct alignment like said above and you will not have to worry about ball joint's anymore. the ome are just coils/springs, they sell them in heavy spring weights so if you have a all pro bumper or any plate bumper the front will not sag, but i hear the ome coils sag in time anyways.
