Been on the lower half. Spent a lot of time cutting firewood out there. A car could take the lower half. Haven't traveled the upper half (east of North South Rd to where it comes in on Capps Crossing at the east end). I started to take it from the upper end and decided not to bother at the time since it was so overgrown. That was several years ago though. Might be better, might be worse.

Jason, where's the road out to the slabs? I haven't come across that yet.

There's another 4wd road that takes off near Leek Springs fire lookout. Haven't been on that one yet. Might do that soon. EDNF 9N67.

If you guys ever go up to Hope Valley (Hwy 88 just east of Carson Pass), the road up to Crater Lake and the mine (splits partway up) are worth a trip. Not sure if a Prerunner would make it to Crater Lake though.

I have a kegerator full of beer. Keeps me from going to the bars and paying for it or somebody else paying for it.

I'm pretty sure thats the Buckskin Joe trail. The trailhead is over 6100 feet, and not too far from the eastern end of Baltic Ridge trail. Did that last year in May and had to bust thru snow drifts on the short, road back to M.E.T. The Sacramento Jeepers club have adopted it. Here's a photo I took that day.

Monitor Pass is a fun place to play around too. Although most of the western side is now burned from the fire that started June 19. We were up there June 20 while it was small and they weren't hitting it very hard.

Everything you see in that first pic, even where I'm standing, burned.

Any of you have an extra 16" wheel you'll let go for cheap? No bent or cracked wheels of course

Well, all this talk of exploring back roads has got me motivated. Just confirmed that there is nothing on my calender this weekend, so I think I'll check out the Baltic Ridge trail this Saturday the 11th (or possibly Sunday if that works better for people). Probably just the 8-mile-long eastern portion, beginning at N/S road, since Jim (05Moose) has posted that the western portion is not really a 4wd road. Then, if there's time, do the fairly short Buckskin Joe trail, which ends at at Leek Spring Lookout which was still in use last year. There was an actual (apparently open to the public) bathroom there.

    Sorry about the short notice.

Might be pretty boring, for guys used to harder stuff, but just getting out of the city is always a good time for me. Weather is predicted to be sunny.

If anyone wants to join me, I'll be departing, at 9am, from the Safeway parking lot (northwest corner) in Pollock Pines. This is close to the second Pollock Pines turnoff (exit #60).

Can't make it Saturday. A friend and I are headed up Sunday, so I'll take some video. Not totally decided on which trail we're doing. Thinking about Crater Lake and Alhambra Mine since the Crater trail has a challenging section.

So North South Rd. I've been all over out there. I must not have taken one of the side roads. There are a lot of them. Past the first bridge? Past the second bridge?

If Saturday is an issue for most, we could do it Sunday. Either works for me. Hell, I'm retired, so I occasionally do day trips mid-week :)
