Aftermarket products

I'm thinking about changing to after market shocks and brake pads, I'm leaning towards performance without sacrificing too much comfort. Any suggestions ?

something im gonna do pretty soon is go with hawk ceramics, and maybe some power slot rotors.....i have great things about the pads alone, as well as the combo.

 

No, I'm not TRD. I don't mind the OEM brake pads, I was just wondering if there was anything else better out there in terms of 'value for money'. As for the shocks, I had a family reunion the other day and on my way to the airport dropping off my two younger brothers the suspension (rear shocks) kept 'bottoming out' everytime I drove over a dip in the road. I'm 5'11" 170lbs. , my wife (in front seat) 5'8" 130lbs. , and my brothers (both in back seat) 6'1" 185lbs. and 5'10" 165lbs. plus a few suitcases in the bed.

 

you definitely need the suspension tsb then.........completely different ride man, in a good way. if you have an sr5 truck, not the trd model......you get 4 new bilstein shocks and new leaf packs, plus an alignment. great improvement over the normal setup.

 

Just letting you guys know, I bought my truck in the U.S.A. and then shipped it to Jamaica (I'm back and forth between the two countries). So taking my truck to the dealer to make these changes is not possible, also the Toyota dealer in Jamaica imports from Japan (they have the Hilux). Is there anything else I can do (aftermarket parts) to get a similar result as the TSB ? I have to get this problem corrected.

 

is your truck still under factory warranty?...if so you could probably call toyota and let them know of your situation and see if something can be done, as far as having the parts ordered and installed at the toyota delaer there even though they dont carry toyotas. just a suggestion!

What made you buy Tacoma instead of Hilux? Seems there are a lot more variety of "cool" aftermarket stuff for the Hilux than for Tacoma at this point. At least from a handfull of comments on the forums where people "drool" over stuff they find only for the Hilux?

Sure... you could do an AAL setup or supersprings or like what I've done with Roadmaster Active Suspension system. You then could replace the shocks with the 5100's as others have suggested. The TSB in my opinion is really a nothing. It's another leaf in the pack (to make 4) and better than "stock non-TRD" set of shocks. (yes it's free but you'd pay a fortune in shipping to get the same parts). I skipped the TSB for my 05 because I have the TRD package and didn't want the harsher ride of an AAL or supperspring. The Roadmaster did the trick for me and I didn't sacrafice ride. I never had much of a sag problem anyway but I've definitely noticed a difference after the mods with a load in the back or with the trailer in tow.

 

Thanks for the advice. I chose the Tacoma because the Hilux is diesel (this made sense in 2006, not now), the Tacoma is also a more all around truck comfort, looks and can do a little work. The Hilux is a no-frills workhorse, a lot of the mining companies out here use them it's a nice truck if you are 'out there in the field' but if you need a truck for everyday 'city' driving w/ the family etc. the Tacoma is a better buy.
