Anyone know what this will look like? Hard, soft, low porfile, big and chunky? All I know is all trd longbed require it with jbl.

I was going to purchase one, but I'm a bit particular with things. Really like the access brand that have the tightening knob.

I think it will be factory installed and hard to remove. I think it will be color matched and hard plastic. Put your own stereo in and save some money and don't get a tc

They're going to try and mimic a bakflip I'm sure...just get a bakflip if you want a tri-fold.

I'm curious to know also.... I want a hard tri-fold that's lockable. However....I wanna be able to remove the whole thing (somewhat easily) so you can utilize the entire bed without that thing being in the way.

If they are installed to meet CAFE, I doubt they are easy to remove.

Hmmm, I don't know. Here in so cal, there's a HUGE market for Tacomas by people who use them to haul their toys out to the desert. I would think (hope) that Toyota wouldn't push their clientele to GM/Ford because the bed can't fit bikes. A non-removable/pain-in-the-ass to remove cover could be a deal killer for some, especially if it left awkward rails or something on the the bed that just get in the way.

But, I'm becoming less optimistic about the direction car companies/regulations are going in and as a result this dang cover, removable or not, may just push me to a '15 after being set on the '16, simply due to principle. I mean Toyota has the Prius and other really efficient models -- do they need a band-aid fix of a cover just to get enough CAFE credits? They couldn't dial the engine in enough to meet the requirements? What other unnecessary stuff is being added, and we're being charged for, just to compensate for the lack of engineering?

Sorry, obviously not a fan of the cover.

Very true. I am buying the truck to use it as a truck often. I have to borrow my dad's truck often to move things or to go riding. It's a 95 Sierra that starts leaking every few months. I want a truck that I can do it all on my own and not feel bad about getting 10mpg around the city when driving to and from work or getting groceries. I also want to do more offroading in the truck itself with my gf. She likes boring hiking and I think this will let us both do what we like.

The taco shouldnt get 10mpgs. in any version from 1995 to 2015ish. So dont worry about that.

I think the Tri-fold will be the same 3-fold style that are out there. i do hope that you can fold the whole thing up vertically, when it is folded up, so it sits above the bed and out of the way for quads/bikes/fridges/fat chicks/etc. I think it would bug me to have to undo all the mounting hardware to be able to take the quads to the trails.

So I guess the tests that were done with covers that showed no improvement in MPGs were all wrong?

I had a soft tri-fold that was rather easy to remove. No hardware to remove - just 4 clamps that you disconnected basically. Here's a photo of the clamp disconnected.
    http://www.lieblweb.com/cpg/albums/ToyotaTacoma/2007Tacoma/normal_IMG_8013.JPG

I've never had a hard tonneau cover - so I googled it and found an install video for a hard tri-fold. Similar clamping system as I had on the soft cover. Not much difference between the hards or softs.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHhs7yH_e_k

Chances are - Toyota didn't design it. Some aftermarket company probably makes the exact same thing but calls it something else. If the rail system is the same as 2nd gen - it'd be easy to design a clamp to easily remove.
If it isn't removeable, I'm shopping aftermarket.

Not bad from what I can see. As long as it goes flat against the back window I will be fine.

That hard cover looks nice but I wouldn't trust my stuff from getting stolen. It's a good idea to have a locking tail gate with it, though

    What do those cost?
