Low&SLO Build

Sup guys!,

So here is a little back story, sold my 09 6lug tacoma (Old Build Thread) back in January of 2015 and the picked up a 97 5lug a few weeks later. Coming from the whole long travel game im thinking about lowering this truck.. something different, seems cheaper, gives it some style and ill only drive this on the street unless it's some fireroads to go riding since ive got a dirtbike and friends with built trucks. I just started recently looking at what drop i want to do and I'm going to go with the 5/6 drop. Which means 5" front drop and 6" rear drop. Been looking at StreeTacos drop kit which includes a 2in coil, 3" BJ flip, 3" block in rear, c-notch, and removing the middle spring from a 4x4 1st gen pack. on top of that ill get some new KYB shocks. Dont plan on doing this real soon but maybe by august? hoping to have it on 18" charcoal or black wheels with some 225s wrapped around them.

I just realized this is the only picture i have of the truck now. It's got general AT2s with some sort of chrome/cholo wheels. Interior is clean and i installed a pioneer deck with Bluetooth for convenience. Other than that, its stock with 147k on the OD today.

 

I would not drop it Id leave it as is,that little sucker can pull a load! How is the performance with the bigger than OEM tires and all those bikes and stuff in the back.

 

its not bad at all really with the three bikes. obvioulsy the ride is a little more bouncy but up hills and everything i just drop into 4th and it pulls away. i dont go much faster than 65 with more than 2 bikes but it cruises for sure.


what exactly is stock size tires?

 

tiny P215 ? R15 https://www.yahoo.com/autos/research/toyota/tacoma/2015 looks like. Im thinking about getting a base model 5 lugger auto tranny as a daily driver after my 04 ever bites the dust but I cannot stand the pee wee tires that's why I asked about the performance with bigger tires.

 

yea i just looked up stock size tires for this truck and theyre supposed to be 195s.. these are 215s haha. oh well i dont anyone would really be able to tell the difference. ive driven a friends 96 SC with the little tires and only thing i noticed is that i didnt have to give it throttle while letting out the clutch with his truck. on my new to me truck ive got it give it just a tad to get it rolling.

 

it seems like the P225/70/15 size would be good alternative to the pee wee tires,i had spotted a 5 lugger with that size and it made a great difference in the way the truck looks versus the pee wees.https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=225-70r15-215-70r15 heres the tale of the tape,the 225/70/15s looked real good on the truck I seen. I would keep that 97 those little trucks are badass and can get it done.
