    Hey Tacos!

New to the forums. Lots of great information here. Have a problem I have yet to resolve:

My job requires me to carry a large ladder while working in the field (22' fiberglass extension ladder). On my 03' Tacoma, I had a ladder rack drilled into the frame. I do NOT want to do that with my new 09'. Per the dealership, they stated they do not carry anything that will function as a ladder rack that utilizes the bed rails. I've seen some after market style ladder racks yet they all require you to install their railing system. Does anyone know of one that will work with the factory Tacoma bed rails?

I have the shortbed model and had the roof rack installed at port as it seemed necessary to keep a ladder from touching the roof.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That's exactly what i'm looking for but....

I looked into it and when I entered my truck description (2009 tacoma shortbed) it produced no results under the fit list. The front page advertises "New Toyota Tacoma T-Rac Pro Fits Models From 2005 - 2008". Anyone know off hand if there is there a reason why the 05-08 rail system would not be compatible with the 2009?

User error on their end for failing to update their website. The bed and rails are the same from 2005 to 2010.

If you already have your roof rack on then you may want to consider my setup.
I also carry a Werner 32 and 16 footer. I use a Thule roof rack in combination with an Extend a hitch on my receiver hitch. The extend a hitch goes for about $95 at Northern tool. I also use a hitch rider anti rattle vise clamp (http://hitchrider.com/) on the extend a hitch to keep it SOLID with no wiggle or play.

I travel several thousand miles a month all over the South and Midwest with this setup with no problems. When I don't need to carry my ladders I can easily remove the Extend a Hitch in seconds. I am loving it!

That's great! Exactly what I need. Not bad on the price either.
I would love to see some pics of the bed rail setup when ya get it in Old Soul, as that's what I was initially going for.. if ya don't mind. ;)

OK, I'll throw in here. Not the cheapest of the bunch, but it'll handle 450lbs of fun...or work stuff. Thule Xsporter 422xt...about 500 and change for rack & some necessary goodies.

^ Nice, indeed. Did you consider the trac rac when making the purchase?

Not really, liked the adjustability of being at bed level or over the roof and all the locking stuff and the sturdiness for carrying 2 60lb 12' kayaks down the freeway. Not saying the other one wouldn't handle it, just wanted the extra beefiness due to almost loosing them one time.

I like the trac rac setup a lot...but unfortunately, it would not allow me the use of my roll n lock cover. That's why I went with the Thule and Extend a Hitch.

The Thule is rated for 150lbs but when used in combination with the Extend a Hitch you can carry 300lb total and I get to lock my bed as a bonus.

Great pics. Thanks for posting them. Your setup looks very good. I'll file this for future reference.

Thanks for the Trac Rac idea too. Nice to know it's out there.

My concern is the strength of any connection to the bed rails. As I see it, the only metal-to-metal connection to the truck frame happens at the rear tail gate sides, and the two large bolts in the front of the bed, near the back of the cab. Everything else is plastic. Even the rear fenders attach to plastic. How strong is the plastic, especially when cold?
