My 2002 Tacoma has the SR5 badge on the tailgate and the TRD sticker on the sides(they can be bought) it has 265 70R -16 wheels ,but the door sticker says 225 =75R-15 . It's the 3.4L V6 Auto and does have the dif. locker. when I got it aligned the computer said std not off road suspension when they put in the vin. Searching it seems if it has the locker it was the TRD ,but then the vin said not on the alignment machine. Is there any way to know what's what? --OBT~~

If women on the street take off their underwear and throw them at your truck as you drive by...then it's a TRD.

For sure a pre-runner. To check if it's a TRD crawl under neath the truck and look for the e- locker....

ignore the door sticker. they put both on the truck for some stupid reason. everything sounds right for the TRD O/R package. my VIN tells me mine is a base DLX model so :notsure: but I do have the TRD

if yours has a 4cyl then you would NOT have an e-locker, only the 6cyl got it.

Back to my original question .My info is all conflicting. Is there not a way to determine one way or the other? Seems everyone has a different story ,even the dealers don't know .~~OBTs~~

Although Toyota offered the rear locker beginning in 1996, it wasn't officially designated the 'TRD Off Road' package until 1998.

Is the truck 4wd? The prerunner started in mid-1997 too.

Check the rear dif for a locker on the front driver side, but if you don't have the button it seems very doubtful.

As Harry stated the TRD package was not "officially" offered until '98. You could still have the locker which was an option at the time. So the stickers on the sides the previous owner decided to put on.

It's hard to even get an answer from the dealer but it may be a rare case of the transition period that yours could have been one of the first.

Look at this window sticker from mine, it tells the package.

I'd like to add that, for the record:
My first Tacoma was a 1996 4cyl base model with stickers added by the previous owner (was not sold to me as a TRD though)
My second Tacoma (and current one) is a 2001 6cyl with the TRD package that came debadged/destickered from the previous owner. I added Sockmonkey Yeti Rescue stickers.

    Appearances can be deceiving

My Tacoma is a 2002 see my post .I couldn't tell what the original shocks were they were like rusted to nothing, they have Billy on now .I put them on . Seems like I have everything on that sticker, but then my 97 had all that also except the tires were 31/10.50X15 ---~~OBTs~~
