Should I get the Manual or auto? I've only have sports cars with manuals. What is your experience with Toyota truck manuals? Are they any good? How are they different than a car's box? I'm looking to get a Double cab TRD Sport short bed.

Every truck I've owned has been manual both ford and tacoma... not once had a problem with manual. Now I have to go auto with the DCLB offroad but glad its being offered.

Has anyone seen any information about the 6 speed manual transmission? Is it going to be the same RA60/AY6 with new gearing to match the new engine or do they even have anything else they could use or could be bothered to use?

I remember when the shots of the test mule came around, someone pointed out that the transmission had a plate that didn't appear on the current transmission. It was some evidence that it would be a different design.

If the manual is the same as the 2nd gen (no one knows yet) then I'd stick with the auto. If your only benchmark for manuals is a sports car you'll really dislike the truck transmission. I went from a 6 speed wrx sti to a 6 speed Tacoma. Hated it so much I traded it for a 5 speed auto dcsb of the same year only 7 months later

Fer me, the question comes down to engine more than anything.

If the powerplant in said truck is the 2.7, get the manual. If it's the 6, flip a coin.

Of course, I wouldn't drive a double cab if you put a gun to my head, but that's me; everybody's a little different.

Unless you get the 2.7 auto

Then you can start your journey, get out, walk to your destination, take a selfie along the way, tell them you're coming, and wait patiently for your truck to arrive. Depending on the journey length, it may have gotten to 5th gear by this time...but it may not.

We will see when the 3rd gen is released which configurations are possible and which are not. Then your decision should be much easier. I know in the leaked price sheet I only saw the manual available on the TRD OR. Not to say that will be the case but that's what I saw on the spreadsheet.
