The shifter on an automatic is only to hold it up to a gear. Maybe you're thinking it down shifts

Based on the order sheet, it looks like you can't get JBL sound with the MT. That sucks.

Yup. quite often models that offer manual transmissions offer less content. Gets pretty annoying.

Not perfectly clear, but it appears that the TRD Off-Road Access Cab is AT only. I had hoped to get this model with manual, so now I need to choose between the TRD Off-Road Access Cab (with AT) and a manual in some lower trim. I'd be open to a manual with a lower trim but I want neither the 4-cylinder engine nor the TRD Sport (hood scoop bugs me).

[Still another option would be to get the TRD Off-Road Double Cab in manual.]

I agree, but I'm a bit surprised in this case. It's not like the OR is a base model. Who would want the tech/premium package and not decent sound? Especially since they have the cheaper option for those that want it.

I swear, it's like they try to get people not to buy manuals. Grumble grumble CAFE conspiracy grumble.

That one is weird too. I would think that folks who buy manuals would be more biased to the OR than the Sport.

I have the same desire and have been holding out for the new Tacoma Access Cab, Off-Road, manual transmission and I don't care for the faux scoop on the OR Sport either. I'll probably just order an Access Cab SR5 manual and add some extras with some of the savings.

Part of me still wants the manual. I've never owned anything else because it does give a better feel of the drivetrain. My current truck sounds and feels like a Jeep thanks to that R155 tranny and that's part of its charm.

Next truck will be the auto though, whether I pick the Taco or Tundra. Toyota can't make a Honda-slick manual in any of their cars and I really miss that. The Toyota autos are quite smooth and durable so they should be a change for the better.

Besides, I won't have to crawl under and spray the slave cylinder ball with grease every two months anymore!

I like my manual in my 4cyl, makes it fun to drive and would be pathetically slow with a slushbox. Not that its fast with a stick, it's just more engaging.

Ease of maintenance and reliability is another. I can drain/fill the fluid my manual in no time at all, and I'm confident it will last a long time with regular maintenance.

The 2016 manual is a new transmission if I recall. Not carry over. I think Mike Sweers mentions it on the sticky thread that has his web interview.

Maybe that ECT PWR button will make it feel sporty-ish, and maybe not shift into 2nd gear at 5 mph

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I personally would go with the auto. I had a manual Tacoma before and would never go back to one. Manuals suck in trucks and SUV's, there's a reason so few manufacturers still offer them. The only full size truck that still has one is the Cummins because they make shitty automatics, but Ford, Chevy, Nissan, and Toyota no longer offer them in any of their big trucks. I'm honestly surprised Toyota kept them in the Tacoma with the new generation.

Manuals are only fun in small sporty little cars, but when it comes to a truck, automatic all day long for me.
