I was thinking of getting a 2016 but not at 270 Hp, I don't care how they geared it. Grab a clue and do what consumers ask, I'm buying an imprezza and keeping my 08 for work as the 16 can't do what my 08 can. What a disappointing joke Toyota

Huh? 240hp is OK, but 270hp is no good?

Not only that but 16 rated to tow more than an 08 even if it's only 200 lbs more

I don't understand how you can judge a truck off of peak HP :notsure:

Common core math is to blame.

I don't know how you can judge a Truck that hasn't been released yet and has no Hp or torque figures released yet.

I'm actually a huge fan of common core math. It teaches you how to do math quickly and effectively in your head. I've asked coworkers (also engineers) to solve a math problem in their head that isn't extremely obvious and explain the steps. Almost every engineer I talk to uses the common core method to get to the solution without realizing it. It looks silly on paper sometimes (particularly that meme floating around), but most math problem look silly when you are learning the methodology. Speaking from experience, my engineering manager doesn't want me whipping out a calculator when he's grilling me about budgets, machine capacities, and cycle times. He wants +/-10% answers quickly.

    Your post is illogical.

    2015 4.0L = 236 hp, 266 ft-lbs
    2016 3.5L Rumor #1 = 270 hp, unk tq
    2016 3.5L Rumor #2 = 285 hp, 265 ft-lbs

Also these are just peak ratings and peak rumors...no consideration for flatness of torque curve/power delivery with new tech like VVTi-W, D4-S, and efficiency improvements. And you are ignoring the increase in tow rating from 2015 to 2016.

Your post is troll poo. and '95 Thunderbird? Sorry. Please don't generalize for us "consumers" at large when you aren't even making an iota of sense.

If the torque is basically the same as the 4.0, there is an additional 40-50 HP, there is an extra gear in the tranny, the rear end is 4.10s or 4.30s as opposed to the 3.73s and the torque curve is flatter as a result of other engine improvements, is it not safe to assume that the 2016 will perform far better than the current generation truck for pretty much everything?

Who cares about the peak HP, peak torque, whether the HP is more than torque, etc. Isn't this really a "sum of the parts" issue? Don't you have to look at everything together?

Yup, just don't tell @4.0 TEQ or @BlueT that :D.

I doubt Toyota will make this Tacoma any less of a performer off road or on that the current Tacoma. In all likelihood the on road experience will improve drastically and there will still be a good platform to work off of to build up a good trail rig.
