I'm looking for an instrument cluster that'll fit my 97' Tacoma. Speedometer must be cable driven and have a Tachometer and from a manual transmission vehicle. I know the 95.5 to 97's 4WD Tacoma's are cable driven with a tachometer. So if you have one or know where i can get one please let me know what it would take to help you part with it or how to get hold of one.

Header installed and the balance shafts removed. Bilstien front coil overs. Installed an instrument cluster from a 4cyl 4runner that had a factory tachometer. Polished Western Slot Mags. New cylinder head and new bearings and counter shaft in the trans.
Those clusters are hard to find but I have seen them. I ultimately had to build my own. I haven't seen on Ebay in the past few years. I had to build my own from a cluster from a 4 Runner. It wasnt that hard.

I know this is a bit of a thread revival but.......
are the 4runner clusters and the tacoma clusters the exact same size?

They are the same size and look alot alike but you have to make sure that they have the same mounts, I tried using a 4 runner housing but it didn't mount to the dash the same. I ended up getting a 4cylinder housing and swapped out all the guts and rebuilt the assy. I replaced the bulbs with red LEDS from superbrightleds.com

The 4runner cluster is the same except the 2 upper mounts. I still use the 4runner cluster though. I carefully cut off the upper mounts off my Taco cluster and bonded them to the 4runner cluster also removing the old upper mounts of the 4runner cluster.

I installed the speedo from my original cluster and used the Taco lens to fill in the hole that was for the odometer reset button. Rewired it of course too.

So I guess what you are saying is that the 4runner cluster could work but it has to be rewired (like yours in the pic with all of the blue wires) before it will work?

Yep. The upper mounts need to be modified and your old cable speedo/odo needs to be installed into it if has and electronic speedo/odo.

that one is the roller odometer, it will fit your truck perfectly, look at the numbers, the electronic odometer is an LED screen for the numbers

besideds the cable vs electronic plug for the tach, there are only two types of mileage meters, the LED screen or the numbers

Right. My question is I have a roller odometer, if i plug in one with an electric odometer: will it be blank, use the cluster's milage, or display ECM mileage?

im pretty sure you don't have the right wiring on the plug for the digital mileage meter to work, besides the ECM wouldn't be the right one or have the sensor wires to make it work since the wiring harness ECM and electric speedo gear also needs to be changed.

it sucks but with very very few exceptions, if these trucks don't have something, you cant just plug in newer parts and get it to work.

I have a 2.4L 2WD 5-speed without tach. So anyone know which years (and options) of 4runners have tach clusters that can be installed in the Tacoma with a little modification?

(That ebay link for the Tacoma cluster is a little pricey for me.)

No need to use one from a 4 runner since it requires a lot of modification when the correct ones for the truck come up on ebay all the time. Most of the time they will run between $100-150

Not for 98-00 models, they have electronic speedometers.

My only question is what would happen if i plug in a cluster with a digital odometer into my car that currently has a roller odometer?

Nothing, works exactly the same. Just needs to match 4 and 6cyl or the tach will be off.

Sorry for pressing the question, but I just want to be sure. So the mileage recorded in the new cluster will be shown?
