Hmm, but if Nestle isn't using that ground water people are still going to be in a drought right? I don't like the idea of selling water at all but I don't see how what Nestle is doing can be linked to this issue other than as a scapegoat. Water problems will continue to become a bigger deal in the future so whatever the government does, which is likely nothing for now, it should keep in mind that water supplies likely aren't going up in the next few decades.

Thanks for the insightful comment OZ. I never said it was.

Is the city drawing from the same aquifer, and same basin, in this aquifer? Even in California some aquifers are extremely full and some are several hundred feet from the surface nearly depleted. Water MANAGEMENT is critical. California is a diaster because the state level is trying to regulate all of their water sources to the same standard but they don't have the infrastructure to move enough water from the areas that still have water to the areas that don't. Yes, California is in a deficit situation and yes they need to regulate there aquifers strictly, but right now water management seems to be more political there then helpful. Similar to a bank account, if what is coming out is more than what is going in you will eventually go bust.

My comment was that in times of water stress industry is usually targeted by media as a scapegoat since usually residential luxury usage is the first thing targeted by conservation measures. Seems like this time though the media is really reaching considering the Nestle facility appears to be taking water from an unconnected source.
    Absolutely.

The data Nestle is providing on there draw and the health of the aquifer should be gone over rigorously by a reputable third party.

Just to restate my opinion from pages upon pages ago, water from Canada should stay in Canada. If Nestle is bottling this water for Canadians and what they are doing is sustainable for the aquifer then I don't see a problem. However, if either of those things is not true then I think this is a problem and should be dealt with whether or not BC is in a drought at this time.

The article has a hyperlink for the water restrictions in Nanaimo right in the middle of it. Nanaimo is, of course, not even on the same land mass as the Nestle plant. Media sensationalism during a drought. The article even uses the word scandalous :D. It's happened in my area many many times.

    upload_2015-7-13_10-23-33.jpg

Does the issue of water rights and ground water aquifer "sales" need to be addressed? Yes. Does it have anything to do with the drought now or would CBC write about this during a normal season. No.

Did you somehow get out of that article that Nestle is being blamed for the drought in BC ?

No. I do think though that the only reason the CBC is drawing attention to this at this exact moment is because of the drought.

I also found it interesting that the BC government doesn't think this contract is the same thing as selling water rights. I get that it might be easier to cancel but it is a dangerous precedent to start charging for the water, and not just the delivery or other methods that have been used to charge for water in the past, being sold by a company in bottles.

Ok. I didn't think it was necessary to throw hyperlinks to drought conservation measures in the middle of the current article. Makes them seem related, no?

No conspiracy. Just some editor telling his minions to go find water shortage stories during a drought to attract readers.

    Where's the conspiricy ?

"using a rope as punishment or correction is unacceptable under the Stampede’s animal care protocols.

Cooper’s agent, Shawn Wiese, says his client accepts the Stampede’s decision and doesn’t question it."

I also noticed the link to the stabbing of 3 people at the Stampede

"READ MORE: 3 men taken to hospital after stabbing at Calgary Stampede"

    Is that related ?

Yes. You can't use the rope to drive/discipline the horse in roping. Actually, none of the horse arena sports allow for you to use a rope in this manner. It is unnecessary and cruel to the animal. BTW this is why people, in the know so to speak, get upset when organisations target the Stampede for animal cruelty when horse racing is FAR worse and going on in their own backyard.

Any sort of perceived cruelty, or unnecessarily rough treatment, to an animal at the Stampede in a moment of frustration results in instant disqualification. I also doubt this rider will be invited to the event again, ever.

No conspiracy. Calm your shit so to speak :D.

I meant tinfoil in regards to our discussion last week. Animal rights are protected far better at the stampede than at any horse track anywhere. Case in point. How many horse tracks would venting frustration on a horse with a crop be a disqualification? None that I know of. I guess those animal rights activists should, I don't know, take care of the shit in their own backyard?

Yeah, a dude was stabbed. At least that happened within 100 km of the disqualification though :p.

BTW the hyperlinks for me are:
On that article so I don't know where the stabbing is coming up for you.
