Go for it. I never shoot my SBR but at least I can get it out of the safe every once in a while. After I built it up, I realized what a PITA it would be to replace, weighing the chances of it getting stolen vs me actually needing an SBR vs a carbine, so it's not a truck/HD gun for me. Maybe I'll get back around to it at some point. Neat to say you have one though.

If it does get relegated to truck duty i have a secure mount design in mind that I will try.
Most people don't secure the firearms they have in their vehicle around here for some reason.

Hey guys any ideas on the best way to sell my AR, bought it as soon as I turned 18 and haven't even shot 100 rounds through it, its a Smith and wesson M&P15, Has a Red dot with multiple "sights" red and green, Laser, 3x magnifier scope, Front pistol grip, and a bipod, 2 clips. I have everything from the original box and all the little papers.

My priorities have changed and would rather have a lift for my truck. So any ideas on the fastest yet not get ripped off way of selling this thing? Or even a good starting price for it? I honestly have no idea how much I even have in it.

Or if anyone has a 6112/5160 lift kit we can just trade!

Thanks - did you paint the gun as a whole or remove some components?

I taped off some things like sights, top rail, ejection port, etc. Didn't take anything apart. Left the mag in. I figure certain parts may wear quickly like the trigger and grip. But I'm not too concerned, I think rifles look kinda cool when they're worn looking. Plus it's easy enough to just repaint or touch it up.

Your best bet is to find a local gun forum and list it there. It's a pretty basic gun so I doubt anyone would want to deal with shipping and transfer fees. Most states have some sort of forum or you can post it on larger forums like ar15.com and just mention local only.

As for price I usually look what a new one will cost. Then search used m&p15 and you can usually get a decent idea. Or post it for say 50-100 under new. If you do t get any offers just keep lowering it till you do.

Just make sure you follow any state laws for private sales

My aimsurplus NiB BCG wasn't cycling in any of my upper and lower combos. It is pretty new too, and did not perform too well in the first few rounds I put in it. I was toying with it yesterday and noticed the bolt has way more resistance rotating and moving inside the carrier compared to my regular/normal BCGs. I took it apart and noticed a ton of fouling at the back of the bolt behind the gas rings, and despite a lot of scrubbing, much of it is still on there. Any reason why a relatively new NiB BCG would have so much fouling in there? (I pretty much only shoot wolf by the way, which I know is dirty) A couple of my other BCGs also had fouling back there but had way less friction/resistance when the bolt rotates in the BCG.

I bought one of the AIM NIB BCG's and initially couldn't get my rifle to cycle rounds. After trouble shooting everything I could it turned out that the gas key wasn't staked and was loose. Once tightened down and staked it was GTG. I see more crud on my bolt than I was expecting as well and I shoot steel most of the time. I thought this was normal...as this is my first AR.

good idea, i should double check it. was your's hand loose? or did you have to apply a bit of force to move it? I notice the front of the gas key is a little marred and it might be making contact with the gas tube.

Didn't take much force at all to tighten it down...I was very surprised. I'd double check to make sure yours is tight. If not it might be why its hitting the tube.

Had a gas key work loose through the staking on an LMT carrier. Took a long time to figure out why it was short stroking and not locking back. I just happened to pick the carrier up by the key and felt it move. 15,000 rounds through that gun and that was the first nagging issue it experienced. It happens, I guess. I've added that to the periodic maintenance checklist.

Well. Most manufacturers do not seal the bottom of the gas key either. It is supposed to be sealed with permatex gasket sealer as per mil specifications, then the bolts torqued to 56 inch pounds. Rarely is that the case. Instead they are torqued, then staked. Or in most cases, improperly torqued and then staked, causing a loose gas key or broken bolt if over torqued and staked.

When done properly, there shouldn't be a key coming loose but the sealing step is usually skipped.

Hey, I've got one of those. What model are you looking for? The ECOS seems relatively easy to find. This one is old, but I see them pretty regulary online.

Also a proper staking tool. Not a punch and hammer. This can bend the bolt, stretch the threads or crack the bolt.
