Consumers aren't looking for race truck. If you were comaring a Subaru of any kind to a Tacoma, odds are your needs are better filled by a car anyways. What makes you think this truck isn't going to beat on your old 08? Sure, maybe reliability or something like that could go down but odds are the lighter, higher technology, new 2016 will be more efficient which, as an operations person, is what you really want in a work truck.

Ok First off all UK is more expensive than the rest of the Europe. Still..

I dont see how you come up with that $40K price tag.
Invincible Double Cab costs 22,124.83 GBP so thats $34261.85 Thats equivalent of TRD Sport and TRD OR rolled into one truck
Invincible X 24,208.17 GBP so thats $37488. Invincible X is equivalent of Limtied + Offroad (leather seats, heated, mirrors heated etc. etc etc.. including crap load of useless stickers...)
Thats prices for Auto with bigger Diesel engine.
How much Diesel engine would add to Tacoma $3000 ? So you are still above even the UK prices. and again UK prices are way above others but they are the only people in Europe driving on wrong side of the road.

Truck is not bouncing from heavier frame, frame is just stiffer. I can get softer suspension if I want to get rid of that but I rather have suspension that I can load with a ton of sand. Thats the only time there is any difference. Otherwise no difference in driving.

I was adding on a few options to get the truck to look like the TRD Sport. I was also not using the base model, since the Hilux is missing a few features the 2016 Tacoma has, so I was splitting the difference by comparing upgraded truck to upgraded truck. It's very difficult at the end of the day to compare trucks accross lines if you try to line up exact features because every region has different options base and upgraded. I just try to pick similar trim levels to give as good a comparison as I can.

Realistically most Diesel upgrades over here cost 3K-5K. So I'd expect about that on the Tacoma. Also, I would expect the Diesel only to be offered on certain trim packages, unlike internationally where it is the base engine.

Yes, frame stiffness equals shitty ride. That's what I was getting at. You can soften the suspension all you want on a 3/4 ton, ruining it's payload, but the stiff frame is still going to lead to a crappy ride. Getting the amount of flex just right for a truck is difficult but I feel the Tacoma is pretty dialed in. You can get a tire off the gorund without turning the frame into a pretzel and yet it has good road manners. The Hilux is too stiff for the average Tacoma driver and provides meh advantages to someone offroad. Maybe with a ton of weight or when you are going to do some jumps the Hilux would look alluring.

Anyways, arguing over the Hilux or Tacoma is silly. We won't be getting the Hilux any time soon. Period.

If you pay me $50K I'll get you one. I hope you don't mind that I'm just going to chop up a 2005 Tacoma and 2008 Tundra to make it :p.

My original point still stands, Hilux is cheaper than 2Gen Tacoma, never mind 2016 Tacoma. Hilux was always cheaper (with exception of brief period when Dollar value took a massive dive), and thats with the Diesel.
There are 2gen Tacomas in Europe and lots of them. People got them when Dollar was cheap. Otherwise it does not pay to import 2gen from US. I know that because I helped a lot of folks to get cars from US.
You complain about frame stiffness but forget 1Gen had stiff frame too. How many here complains about stiff frame on 1gen Tacoma? Maybe Show me threads in the 1gen section of complains ? Its tune in to drive on empty and less frame means costs less to produce. Thats all.

Not arguing Hilux vs Tacoma, I just did not like your yet another false statement about Hilux costing more than Tacoma which again was not true.
See people who only live in NA would read this BS and believe in your statement, I don't.
    So carry on...
