Mechanical lockers lock in when torque is applied. So when you go around a corner both tires spin the same amount of rotations. What this means is the tire going the shorter distance gets put into a bind and "chirps" the tires. Kind of like a mini burn out. The way to avoid this is either a selectable locker or let off the throttle in the corners haha.

I'll know if the front is messed up here shortly but so far only one

Air lockers wouldn't have the same problem right? I was planning on getting air lockers one day...

Cool! Those are down the road. When I change tires I'm planning on going to 35s regear and air lockers.

 

I need a rear locker. But, I put another baby in her. So maybe someday I guess.

I don't see how a mechanical locker would eat tires on road. Even if it's a full time locker, no unlocking, then it still wouldn't do anything. It will eat diffs before tires. If you've never driven a truck with a mechanical locker on the street then you should try it before guessing about what it will and won't do. People seem so scared of running one on the street and I'm just not sure why. If you don't want to explode your rear end then don't. Levi's was an oddity and had nothing to do with the actual locker mechanics, gear setup or driving style. Some people are stupid. If this is you then it doesn't matter what you have, you will destroy stuff.

 

I've been told they can get you a little squirrely around turns on wet roads too since it'll want to break loose. My sammy is spooled in the rear but it sees veeeery little pavement lol

I have an all expenses paid trip to destin. One of our clients we sell property for is letting us stay in his 7500 sq foot ocean front home.

It's called drifting. Haha and no it's far and away the opposite of squirrely. Do you have an lsd? Or even an open? You ever got sideways in the rain and when you tried to come out of it the truck has whipped back the other way and scared the shit out of you and the person on the other side of the road? That's cause an lsd or open diff freely spins the wheel with the least amount of traction. In that instance, it's the inside wheel. So as soon as the weight transfers to the other side it gives traction to that wheel and throws it hard the other way. A locker keeps that from happening because both tires have power all the time which means one tire isn't over powering the other. Drifters run welded gears as well .....

what part of Knoxville are you coming from?. It takes maybe 15 minutes to get there from my house
