OME Lift Kit - Light or Heavy Coils?

Wow missed the group buy by one day. They closed yesterday.....

 

Okay so the shop in town is suggesting that if I do the 887s and UCAs I should also be considering a diff drop kit too. He's willing to install whatever I want but had warned about this height change causing changes in angles of CV angles and such.

 

From what I have read doing a diff drop on the second gen's is not recommended.

I too am having the same issue with choosing the 885s or 887s for my kit. My plans are to run a 240# topper and I want to maintain the factory rake. After another 12 hours of research and shining the idea about running a heavy front bumper I am leaning towards the 885's and am going with a UCA. My alignment shop said it's a day and night difference on tightening up the front end response after adding the lift. I figure I can always add a small spacer down the line if the front settles too much.

 

Yeah I'm honestly starting to consider just going with original plan. Just do the basic OME kit with 885's & Dakars and call it good. The less I mess with the better (and cheaper). I don't mind the current factory rake. Though extra lift up front would be beneficial to overall clearance. It's just getting more and more expensive and complicated.

You list doing Bilstein shocks with OME 887's. No UCA's, diff drop, etc?

 

Nope no UCAs or diff drop like @trailbound said.

And if that weren't enough I'm still under warranty, and they only cover spacer lifts

 

I just got a message from another off road customs shop in town. He recommends only doing the OME kit as intended. He is concerned about changing angles, joints, etc. To level he recommends removing a leaf instead of raising the front.

 

That's what I'm gonna do. With 884's. That will give me 1.5-2" and aling with some nice 265 shoes. I'll have the stance I want. And the better ride and hauling.

So one of the off road shops just told me that OME has new coil overs coming out this year that he thinks are worth waiting for. No other info...

 

You don't need diff drop on a 2nd gen taco. It rotates the diff and doesn't do anything to help.

He specificity said coil overs. Interesting. Those look like an Icon kit. Betting they will be spendy?

Seems counterproductive to lower the rear if you're looking for clearance. I see what he's saying though. I couldn't imagine driving around with a ~3" coil lift on a Tacoma on stock control arms. Down travel is important, believe it or not.
