I have *heard* that you should NEVER turn the dial from cold to hot with the AC button on, it will fry your AC system in a hurry. True?

If so, what is the best way to do that? Seems like a moron question, and maybe it's because the truck is brand new to me, but I haven't yet been able to come up with a good order in which to go from AC to heat. Up here in Seattle, it's been hot during the days, cool in the mornings, so I have been going back and forth between heat and AC. Just wondering if it even matters how you do that. If not, I'll stop worrying about it, tell my "source" that they're full of it, and continue head on down the highway.

Fry what? Your source sucks and I would never buy he or her a beer again.

The best way to turn it off... drum roll.... just turn it off. Best way to change from AC to heat is... just turn the dial from heat to ac.

In the past on previous trucks I have had both heat setting on and ac button pressed on. No damage.

*They* (who shall remain beerless, at least from me) said that if the AC button / light is on, and then you turn the dial from cold to hot, there goes your AC unit. So, I have been vigilant about turning the knob to cold, then turn the fan on, then see if the AC light is on, and if it is, turn it off, and then turn the know from cold to heat. Again, if none of this matters a hoot as far as protecting the AC unit's longevity, then I'll just do the drumroll obvious things in the order that I see fit.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
AC Evaporator is in front of Heater core. So cool air will get heat up when you have A/C on when things are set to full heat.
This also works great if you need run in Dehum mode with out making your truck freezing (in colder but humid env. during maybe rain)

You can not do damage it even if you tried...

You can absolutely use the AC while using the heating core(hot on the dial). The AC will help dry humid air but sometimes it's too cold to keep the temp dial on full cold. You can blend it anywhere you like.

Whoever told you that is very wrong. Cars for the last decade or longer have had the AC on automatically when defrost is turned on as it dries the air out.

I do use the heat quite often and have for many years across many vehicle. As stated above, it is a great way to dehumidified the air on cool mornings and take care of inside window fogging. Many articles written about this very subject on the internet.

    Not enough...
You've been lied to. AC and heat on at the same time is the quickest way to defrost/defog your windshield.

The AC is also a dehumidifier. I use AC along with heat all the time during winter to keep the windows from fogging. On most older vehicles the AC came on automatically when you set it on defrost, hot or cold. In an effort to improve fuel mileage you now have to manually turn on the AC along with defrost in order to keep the windows clear.

The funny things some people say... heat mode will burn out the AC :)

But, If you cough, sneeze, burp and fart at the same time your head will blow up. Now that is a fact!
