Anahiem is going to have Kessler, Perry, and Getzlaf locked up way past their primes. That's the new NHL for you. If you want to lock up your core in their prime you end up signing deals that will look bad towards the end of them.

Do you think they signed Kessler that long because they thought they were getting an Amazon Prime deal? They'll end up disappointed, like most people with the Prime Deal savings on useless crap.

Hard to get upset when the team tries to do the exact same thing and expected a different result.

Kessels gone which should hopefully kick a few butts. I'll miss his scoring but I think towards the end of last year he did exactly what he does in some games. He mailed it in. It'll be interesting to see whose still around in 5-6 weeks and if Babcock can make a difference. The team is clearly trying to up its procession numbers and Babcock basically told the Leafs to hang onto Phaneuf because he thinks that he can work with him so at least this team should look different than it has the last couple of years. That's something to watch.

Enjoy your core while you can. Hopefully you get a cup out of them because in 5-6 years most of those new deals will look ugly.

 

They had no choice but to sign him for 6 years. They have to know their window is open for a few years to contend for the Cup so they'll pay big money for a 2nd line center. If they win a Cup of two in the next few years they'll probably end up moving Kesler or buying him out before that contract is up. No way in hell he will finish out that contract with the way he's held together today.

 

Which was my point. If they don't get a cup out of this team and they have to buy him out or eat salary this deal will hurt them for the last half.

Anaheim has their core locked up long term for big money, similar to Chicago and a few other teams. For Chicago they already have won a few cups so the money is well spent. If this Anaheim core can't get over the hump though all this big money over big years isn't going to allow them to go a different direction easily should they need too in 4 years.

... I look up to see a 40 y.o. something lady with an original mighty duckie shirt on, naturally I was wearing a discreet Nike LA Kings Hockey shirt.

So I replied with a big smile ... "still upset about that game 7 are you ?" .. She then went on about how she really doesn't even follow hockey anymore and since her kids are older, they follow football now.

I can't blame her, ducks suck.

BTW ... another story, should of took a pic, was rolling up Beach Blvd around Westminster area and seen the most hideous truck, it was the older Tundra body style and was painted bright orange. It had duck feet all over it and on the front doors it actually said "duck truck". The license plate was personalized too .. Duck trk.
