If you get a good machine shop to do the work you won't have a problem. I have had hubs and axles redrilled and never had anything break.

I broke 3 third members and a couple wheel bearings, and bent a few axle shafts. And that was all in about 1.5 years. It was the broken thirds that lead me to ditch e locker. From what I've read the 8.4" tundra/t100 third member has a stronger bearing design and a stronger carrier for the ring hear. Ecgs told me the carrier in the elocker axle is weak and can flex which leads to broken ring gears.

they hold up fine... its what anthony, jordan and i have

they work good on the tacomas and mine has taken a beating with only 1 leaky axle seal after packing it with sand

where they are a bad idea is when people want to build them... you might as well just get a 9" for the aforementioned reasons and be way better off in the long run

I called Schreiner to get a quote and he said $1500 shipped for my specs. That's without the 3rd. The only thing I'm looking for is 6 lug, 65-66" wide, 4.56 gears, and an ARB (eventually). I think the most cost effective for me will be the t100 or 1st gen tundra. Unless of course I come up on a good deal.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
Anyone use the volant "cold air ram"? Not looking for more power but trying to see if I can find cleaner air then I'm getting from the wheel well. Looks like some fine silt keeps getting through the first filter.

I'd suggest a junkyard housing before you get anything from Schreiner.

Well that settles that. I'm going to work on an 8.4 to put in a t100.

For what it is worth, I'm putting a 1st gen tundra rear under mine

And my elocker rear with 4.56 has never let me down an abused it pretty bad. Blew the stock diff on a 4x hill climb but the situation is what caused it not really the gears lol

I guess I have damaged my axle... I bent the driver side axle shaft... However I don't see how that could be an Elocker only problem...

Why is that? I was thinking on either ordering a Currie with billet ends for my Bronco but at the same time I have considered them as well.

I haven't had any problems with the diff, they have all been at the wheel seals and bearings. I haven't even wheeled on the driver bearing that I replaced. just some dirt road driving at normal speeds and it's already gone. In my 96, I abused the 8.4 and the only non maintenance issue I had was a pinion seal from sinking it to the doors in mud.
