I was looking at this last week.

    https://www.groupon.com/deals/davey-s-locker-sportfishing-19

I was hesitant as it is only on Tues and Wed, but could make it work. I have an extra rod if someone needs one.

Only question: Its $35 for one adult or $40 for one adult w/food. What's the food, a cheese sandwich?

I'm down! Done this deal a few times. The food hot of the grill. I went with the cheeseburger.

If you are an experienced fisherman, I would avoid this. I've done this and it is the worst. A lot of newbie fishermen on the boat. A lot of tangled lines. Rather cough up the extra money and go with a much more experienced group. (Non group-on)

You're right. Weekends are super bad but I find weekdays to be smoother. I'm doing a drive into Ensenada a couple times a month where 100 bucks gets me on a boat for 7 hours with 6 anglers max.

Ever been to Old Mill in San Quintin? Was hoping to go there in April for a birthday, but couldn't make it happen. The two places that do charters nearby that i could find phone numbers for have posted rates of $200-300 for the day. Is this overpriced?

Never Heard of it. Depending on length of trip and number of anglers for that price.

From what i know, its owned by a American family out of Orange County, nice basic rooms, armed security at night, boat landing as well as nearby sportfishing charters, oyster farms too. Looking at the map i would probably bring a mountain and/or dirtbike with.

Told two friends about the groupon deal, waiting to see who else can arrange to be sick on a Tuesday.

Question: what is your recommended line setup? The two rods i have came with about 150 yards of 80 or 100lb braided line, Power pro i think. I added about 100 yards of 50lb mono line as a top shot. Too heavy a line? Too long on the monofilament? They are joined with a double uni.

I have every other Tuesday off.

Depends what you're fishing for. Right now with Yellowtail (tend to dart into kelp beds so braid is great for getting them outta there), yellowfin, and bluefin showing I like 65 lb power pro braid (regular green original color) and a top shot of 8 - 10 feet of seaguar premier fluorocarbon. Reason for a shorter topshot is because if and when your yellowtail does dart into kelp, the braid will cut em' right out of the kelp patty) That's a nice universal set up and what works nicely for me fishing off the socal coast an down into Mexico.

Sounds like the setup you have are for long range or trolling. right now, 30/40/50lb is good. You'll want a reel that will free spool well for fly lining a bait. not sure what reel you have for it to have 100lb braid.

On those groupon trips youll prob be fishing with 60-80 of your closet friends. But if you're lucky it wont be so bad. I did a groupon on the Southern Cal out of pier point when the local yellowtails were biting. 60 people on board or 65. but lot of them were just hanging out and lot of new fishermen just dropping their line straight down so it gave me plenty of space to fish.
