Hard to do that when she can see your bank account! We'll see where we're at financially this Winter...

Is that all in engine mods???

Depends on your relationship. Some people get in arguments when they can see everything the other person is buying. But, having a combined account keeps you both more responsible. I don't have anything to hide haha

Whats the reliability rate on big bore for the DRZ?

Oh im sure itd keep me more responsible but not happening for me at least.

Essentially stock reliability from everything ive read. So i wont really have to worry about anything more than i do now and ill be sitting at 45-48hp.

    Haha understandable.

There are two 305 big bore kits and a 283. The 283 and one of the 305's is made by B&B cycle who's famous for the Kawasaki big bore he makes for the KLX250SF, while the other 305 is made by Takegawa.

B&B has had issues with his because the sleeve is different metal then the piston causing them to heat up differently and score the sleeve. Basically have to let it warm up every time before you ride it....

Takegawa is not ran by as many 250L's but is well known. The sleeve and piston are all the same metal as well, so in theory it shouldn't have the same issues. But also $100 more.

For only $100 id go with the same sleeve material and definitely 305! No need to switch to iron sleeve these days. How much power will you that net out of it?

The typical drz bb is a 434, but theres a stroker possibility as well to make it a 470 but thats money at that point.

    Yeah, I kind of agree...

Nice... I don't understand too much when it comes valves and porting, which is what people are recommending in conjunction with the cams...

Current mods have gained about 3hp, cams gain another 3-4, big bore adds about 4, then the cbr throttle body get 1 more hp. Hopefully totaling 28-30hp.

Well, a quick google on valves and porting answered my questions. I'll probably do it if somebody on Thumpertalk does it with good results. Nobody has done it yet but there are a few people planning to down the road. Seems to be in the $300 range....

I dont plan on porting with the big bore/cams. Only if i planned on stroking it would i.

Wait i thought your bike started with like 25? So youre saying right now you only have like 20hp at the wheel??
I know theres a guy that does DRZs, but i wouldnt worry about it honestly. You may gain a hp which isnt much at $300.

Haha yeah it's a low number but a really fun bike and all I really need. I think it fits me well.

Here is a dyno graph for a bike with FMF exhaust, custom header that adds 1hp over FMF header, EJK tuned, and cams. Red is FMF header, Blue is custom header.

And then here is a dyno of somebody with with FMF exhaust, same custom header that adds 1hp over FMF header, EJK tuned, and big bore.

Looking at those i would keep the fmf header, although i cant see the rpms on the colored chart. The fmf has more area under the curves except for a tiny bit at top end.

Whoops, I got it backwards... The blue I'd FMF and the red is custom. The custom one shows 1hp less, but produces better low end torque.

It apparently does better fit torque over the FMF period, not just with the cams or big bore. I may see how much one costs...

Ah. So is it homemade or does a company produce them?

Homemade by the guy running cams. He's sold a few of them, thinking I might want to buy one before he stops making them...

Itd be a nice addition as long as it isnt too expensive. You do already have the fmf header

Yeah, definitely wouldn't be hard to sell the FMF header though.
