6112's HERE!

I personally only used stock coils on both trucks that I ran the 5100s on, but a lot of people go with Eibachs or OME. Getting new coils may add lift, but if they have a higher spring rate, the ride will be firmer, especially if you don't have any added weight.

 

How'd this ever shake out OP?

 

It was an alignment issue. All is good now. Still liking the ride with these shocks. These numbers made ALL the difference.

 

Lifted! Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a set of 6112s and 5160s from Headstrong Off-Road and had them installed last Saturday. Headstrong sells the whole setup, and if you want, you can get a Deaver AAL (which I got). I went to the highest setting (did NOT get a new UCA) on the fronts and added a leaf in the rear. In my non-scientific way, I measured the height of the top of the tire to the edge of the fender. Before: 7" in the Rear, 4.5" in the Front. After: 9" Rear, 8.5" Front.

The ride has change substantially. Way less bounce on the bumps. And I can take the turns on the freeway faster with less roll. Even my wife who doesn't give much thought about this stuff, noticed the change in ride feel. I haven't hit the trails yet, but I'll report in when I do. Now that I have room, I'm pondering a new, slightly bigger, set of BFG AT KO2s

 

What tire size are you running in these pics? I really like the overall posture that your rig has.

I've really wanted to level mine out but I'm nervous about going too tall up front because of how weak the rear leafs are. I don't want a droopy ass-end when I'm just towing a mower which would happen if I just leveled out the front and didn't compensate with lift in the rear.

 

Also you didn't actually say but I'm assuming the substantial change in ride is actually a good one. Not harsh?

 

Hehehehe, yes, the ride has improved substantially. It's not harsh, it's actually a bit softer when it needs to be (bumps/mounds), and firmer when it does (tight fast turns). Again, this is all freeway and street driving around L.A. Hoping to head up to Mojave in a couple weeks to hit the trails.

As for my tires, I have the BFG All-Terrain KOs, 265/75/16. They're on the FJ Cruiser Anthracite rims. I almost didn't put the rear leafs in but was convinced otherwise. I occasionally tow a boat and a trailer full of ATVs so it made sense to firm up the rear.

I'm wanting to do the same with my truck. Are you having any alignment issues? Whats the biggest difference between this set up Bilstein 6150s vs the bilstein 5100s from headstrongoffroad.com?

 

Not sure if you meant the 5160s vs the 5100s... If you meant 5160, these have the external reservoir. The 5100s don't.

I didn't have any noticeable alignment issues right away. There was a slight pull to the right, but I had them installed on Saturday, and Monday I went into a local shop for an alignment.

 

any photo of front cv angles and upper control arm angles?

id like to do this lift as well without needing to do upper control arms.
