I really appreciate the expertise and ideas shared on this site. I've read a lot already.

I got my 15 DCLB Sport with the tow package a couple weeks ago, and next week is the first camping trip. I'm in the midwest, and traveling the Lake Michigan shore, so there is not a lot of elevation to worry about. Round trip on this one is only 400 miles. If I'm towing a camper that weighs 3400 lbs dry, and I have the factory tow package, do I need to even worry about transmission temp if I limit it to 4th gear?

I've got the brake controller and equalizer hitch moved over already. Just trying to decide if I need to expedite a scanguage or ultraguage.

No. But it doesn't hurt having information. :)

I live in West Michigan, south of Grand Rapids- tow a 3600# (dry) camper. There are a couple of 'bumps', but no hills here. I have now pulled about 4000 miles all around Lake Michigan/Lake Superior U.P./Lake Huron so far; the truck rarely gets above 2200-2500rpm anywhere. Generally, no need to worry about trans temperature if you have the tow package, the truck will nearly idle across the state-even with your load.

Thanks guys. There is probably a scanguage in my future, but not next week.

MichRocks - I live a quarter mile from the state line, and have been driving the western coast forever. It's almost home to me more than my home is. Some day, it will actually be home.

You should be fine. My trans got up to 250* towing a 4500 lb travel trailer, but that was towing up some big grades in 100* AZ heat,

OBD dongle and Torque app for android = $25 trans temp readings.

How many miles do you have on your truck? Owners manual says not to tow anything for the first 1000 miles, at least that what my 2014 manual states.

Just the opposite here! Born and raised in CA, got tired of being stuck for hours every day in traffic; one 35-year-long fire season. Escaped to Colorado for 10 years, then Maine for 15, now here. Love 4 real seasons and all that entails- except for black flies and other biters! Love to visit the west coast for trips- love to come 'home' here even more.

They must have relaxed it for 2015. Mine says 500, then no full throttle acceleration for the next 500. I rolled past 500 yesterday, and got the camper from storage this morning. I won't hit 1000 before I leave, but I also won't be doing any full throttle acceleration.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'd switch the rear diff oil over to synthetic in the fairly near future.
