We leave out Wednesday for 10 hours in the Atlantic...we'll be approx 50 miles offshore and in international waters

As a certified law enforcement officer, am I GTG having my pistol with me? Will the coasties snatch me up and put me in federal prison?

Seems that the internet is full of people who just want to debate on whether or not you SHOULD have a gun on a boat, and what type and why...not if it's legal or not. The only definitive thing I've found involves the Bahamas...and I ain't goin there

I'm actually really only concerned with the coming and going around the landing and I'm not interested in leaving a gun in the truck

When we boarded a vessel and they had a gun on it all we did were separate the gun and ammo and left it that way until we got off that vessel and back on ours.

That's what we accepted in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska......one of the first questions the Boarding Officer will ask is if there are any weapons on board, you say yes....tell them where it is and they will clear it and separate the ammo and be done with it. I've personally done this plenty of times on both mom and pop boats and international tankers.

The good news is I haven't heard any horror stories of people getting arrested for having a gun on board...and i've read accounts of people being asked, and then same deal...

good to hear direct from a coastie though

We never gave anyone problems unless they intentionally didn't tell us about a weapon and we found one in plain view site.

I figure my badge/creds and having it in a case in a backpack and letting CG know if we get inspected/boarded will go a long way

The closest thing to an explanation is that if I'm in a vessel from the US, I follow US laws while in international water, and then abide by whatever port's laws when entered. Being that I'm leaving from NC, and returning to NC and I can legally carry throughout the US, I should be good in international water
