I drove on the freeway for 20 minutes, 20+ miles, average speed 70... in 4th gear.

Odometer was at 1150 or so (finally past the break in period). Speed ranged between 65 and 75. When I finally noticed it, tach was at about 3500.

Backstory... Was freeway driving, then pulled in to get gas. Getting back on freeway, phone rang, important call. Apparently I never shifted out of 4th coming back up to speed getting back on freeway. When call was over, I noticed the tach.

I'm handy as hell with building materials but stump dumb when it comes to cars... Do you think I hurt anything?

All you hurt was your gas mileage.

hahaha. I feel for you man. I am pretty anal about taking care of my truck as well and can see why this would worry you but you're fine.

Even off the lot, running them at 3500 for an hour wouldn't even make them sweat. The things are built to work. Ask 3rd world countries. The break in period doesn't apply like it used to. Do an oil change after 1500 or 2000 miles if you're worried about being extra cautious. It's totally unnecessary though.

Dude enjoy your new truck. BTW, with a 4 banger, won't you always be 3k+? Just kidding. You've got a bulletproof truck there.

Edit: also, if you were towing anything in a 5AT, you'd always be in 4th doing 3k+. Intentionally. NBD.

Now if you had it in 4 High it would be another issue.

Really no difference then driving in 5th at 3500 rpm

This. Your truck can run all day long at redline without issue, 3500 is nothing.

As someone else said, you only hurt your MPG.

However, you did provide evidence that cell phone usage while driving is distracting to the driver.

    Indeed.

Thanks all, I *kinda* figured it was ok, but I guess I'm still in paranoid mode  Still can't believe I own a Toyota Tacoma :D

It's less Tacoma and more mod
You've got nothing to worry about, I frequently run mine up to 4-4500 when in 4Low and these little 2.7L just don't care.
