Alright I checked this truck out today that's for sale. I am VERY hesitant and most likely not going to buy it unless someone on here informs me of some surprisingly awesome info.

    Truck: 1999 4.7l 4x4
    141,000 mi and he's asking $8500

I am concerned with the amount of rust on the frame, it was bad, and I'm not a rust expert by any means. I could tell it is defiantly surface level but looks worse to me. Can anyone give their opinion on this? I am aware of all the first gen frame recall stuff and wondering if this might fall into that category? The owner didn't seem too concerned when I brought it up haha and couldn't provide too much history and I don't want to spend money on a carfax since I'm so turned off to it but maybe I shouldn't be??

Any opinions, info, advice please would be awesome!

in that case definitely pass, the 2.7 non TRD package would not sell for that much even with a non rust rotted frame.
Be patient as you will find something better for less

Call Toyota corporate run the vin and ask if it eligible for the frame rust warranty. Trust me I've been through this and it's like winning the loto. 150% of kbb. Don't tell the current owner anything about the warranty.

no matter the time.. not worth wasting it on that rust bucket.

Let someone else take that project.

It was worth the $11,365 I got for my $6000 investment. It's called business.

You can find a truck thats TRD or a 3.4L for that price. That's already a bit high, plus the rust, I'd pass.

well heres a cookie for you MR 1%.. they dont do that anymore as far I was to understand and if anything will just replace the frame.. with a loooooong waiting turn around.
You're lucky toyota even did that for you, how many other instances are there that companies will buy back an old vehicle?

Tons. Actually this is from a Toyota rep "Toyota doesn't want the hassle of replacing the frames now a days so they just buy them out"

Good points. Yeah I guess it might be worth a call to Toyota that's what I was thinking, at least to see if it would be eligible for anything. But it would be quite the headache to deal with for sure and I'm not sure I'd be up for that. I figure I can just be patient too and find something much nicer without the hassle if I'm not in a rush.

Tacotay, how much did your new frame actually cost after they cut you that check? And is that common or do they usually just do the replacement at the dealer themselves?
