What are you talking about? GM never made a 4.ANYTHING straight six for a s-10. Their flagship workhorse v6 is a 4.3L (same bore and stroke of a 350 v8) and it has been that way from 1985-2015.

The I-4 Cummins would have been nice in the taco.
Great motors with lots of after market add on stuff in place..

They didn't use the V8 cummins diesel in the 1/2 ton because it has lots of power but wasn't really fuel efficient. After the takeover by Fiat they decided to use the V6 Diesel and push for the best fuel economy. Nissan is using the motor now and isn't going for fuel economy but power.

Would have to wear earplugs, but hey. ;)

Toyotas own I-4 would be even better.

Cummins B4 engine is loud as hell. If Toyota ever puts a diesel in their trucks over here it'll be one of their own.

Other than being harder on the crankshaft what would this gain you?

I was tired when I was writing the post. Do t get so offended. And by the way I said s-10 blazer. The 4.3 was still a strong and durable engine.

It was still a V6 rather than an I6. Had you said Cherokee, it would be an I6.

The truck itself wasn't very good. Reliable engine in an unreliable truck.

Isn't a V8 what you said would sell in a Tacoma? It's on the first page. Your whole argument hasn't been backed up by any facts and your reasoning makes little sense. But please, do keep your trolling campaign going.

I agree there. If they were to put a Cummings paired with an Allison tranny that would be an indestructible truck IMPO

I'm pretty sure the Cummings in the Rams are still an inline 6. Therefore the ram lovers loving the I6 so much because it produces more torque that a v8 would. Therefore giving you more towing power. V8 mor hp less torque, I6 less hp more torque. At least to my knowledge that was the way it was when I was into diesel trucks but decided to part with the idea of getting one till later down the road. So when I got my taco I don't keep tabs on them anymore. But I'm still almost positive the cummins in the ram is still an I6.

The HD rams are still a Inline 6. They were going to put the V8 cummins into the 1/2 ton truck. Nissan is going to use the engine that was going to go into the 1/2 ton truck. There was never any consideration to change the inline 6 in the HD trucks.

You realize it's Cummins, not Cummings, right?

I'm assuming it's being autocorrected on you or something.

Back to OP why are there some people thinking the torque was reduced in the 3.5? The only information we have is 34 more horsepower and lower gearing. I don't understand the upset or how one could get less torque out of that. Technically it's possible but it's not as if you have any reason to think tq is lower.

So did you want less hp on the new engine, would that make you think there was more torque?
