We will see how the motor feels with it's gearing.

Yes, technology marches on. This motor will still work in this truck. My guess was realistically high 250's to low 260's for torque. That's exactly where this motor ended up.

I was hoping for about 280 lb ft. of torque but oh well. I will have to test drive one before I complain anymore.

Where did these pics come from? First I'm seeing one. Is this just black or black sand pearl?

Think it was from this instagram page (http://instatagphoto.com/2016tacoma/). Stole it from another post on this forum. Looks good to me.

...but...this is what Toyota has been forced to do. We can thank the CAFE regulations and gov regulations for the down-sizing of the motor. The good part is I don't think high-revving motors means long-term reliability will take a hit. Some motors are designed to rev high and they last forever. Look at how many Honda civics you see on the road still. Many with 300K+ miles.

And won't we want to rev that engine from time to time to kick in the port injection and clean the intake valves? (I might be obsessed with the intake valve thing.)

I can say though that Toyota has never cared one bit about segment-leading specs, with maybe the exception of the Prius MPG. Overall the engine is more capable. Lighter truck + new transmission = more towing capability. A 3.X motor is what most companies are using for their full-size base V6's except for GM which has just modified their old 4.3. Kind of wish Toyota had just improved the 4.0 but oh well. Can't have it all.

2015>2016. Unless you're crazy about an optional sunroof or heated seats. It will be funny when the towing comparos come out and the basic 4.0L beats the new 3.5L. Trusty A750 trans has been around since 2002, I will stick with that any day. Why is everybody so sure all this "new" stuff will be so great? This isn't 1990's Toyota we're talking about.

The performance difference of the manual and auto should be interesting for sure.

With the 4.10 rear end I could see this 3.5 L out towing the current offerings. It's sad to see these numbers and no TRD S/C option. It might mean I don't get rid of my truck until it's dead. I'm kind of addicted to my trucks current power with the blower. I was hoping for this engine to be a significant improvement over the 4.0 L but to me it seems about as good on paper with the setup running behind it.

Nope. My next truck will be a T6 Ranger if it comes to NA with an Ecoboost available.

4:10 gears won't help at zero mph when taking off with a trailer hooked up .

My wife already has a 2015 F150, remember :D. I'll get an F250 as my next work truck and likely a Tacoma or Ranger as my personal ride. I wasn't looking to trade this Tacoma until it was at least 7 years old anyways.

Rethink that. You're wrong. Ever try pedaling a bike from a stop in high gear versus low gear. 4.10 makes a HUGE difference from a stop. I can't believe you just said that the rear end makes no difference from a stop with a load.

Check out every truck towing spec ever. They all get better the higher the rear end ratio is.

No torque down low, gotta rev it to 4 grand to get any power. Can you get 4 thousand rpm at zero mph.
Can't belive you think this engine can out tow the 4 liter.
