Have cut way back,,but still. The commercial driving trade has it's share. The Rothchild mints work pretty good and have even let off of those as well. Helping out in the eastern Wa harvest,,to feed America lots of corn, disgusting green pea's and dicer carrots. All the best goes on the boat to the world. Asshat leaders!. Lots of miles, and many tubs of peas dumped,,tons of corn,,carrots soon. The white sweets are almost there,,and I will bring some home. White sweet,,on the cob,,a nice Delmonico cut of beef(full fat ring),,Hard apple cider and we are there.

Lemon Creme w light banana slices Jen.

I had a little excitement this morning. My own fault. I didn't get a good latch last night when I checked my fluids...obviously. hood popped up and was held just by the secondary latch. I figured it would be fine, I'd latch it properly when I got to my destination in a few miles. I didn't take into account the gravel train truck coming at me. He blasted me and up came the hood.

Let's just say trying to drive looking thru the gap between the upright hood and the dash was very interesting. I limped home, parked the old girl, ordered a new hood and latch...and changed my underwear.

And somehow pasted this pic of a tarpon and can't figure out how to get rid of it.[IMG]

damn the bad luck, that sucks man but at least it didn't take out the windshield too

glad your safe even if the underwear didn't make it lol

I think you subconsciously posted that tarpon pic because that's the same expression you had on your face when the hood went up

remember :itllbuffout: << the truck not the underwear lol

And now it's time to take a potentially very sad trip to the Honda dealer. Poor Civ has problems guys.

Needs new tires, is still leaking oil even after the dealer replaced the valve cover gasket and some other stuff recently, has an undiagnosed weird rattly sound that is only heard when accelerating uphill (been hearing that for some time but now it's getting louder), and Eric found all sorts of problems with some boots/tie rods/axle type stuff on the front passenger side, which in a nutshell can't be ignored unless we enjoy fearing for our lives when we drive it (hint, we don't ). The tires alone are about the cost of what the car is worth. So unless they have some magical good news of how to fix it for basically free, it might finally be time to part with that beautiful paint job, lack of A/C, missing drink holder that the dog ate 10 yrs ago, and all the above listed problems and go for something else.

Was really hoping to hold out for a 4 Runner, but might be time to be practical and replace the Civ with a nice, reliable, low cost Accord, where we can keep the cost around $10K yet still expect the car to run for 10-15 yrs or more, since that's how those Honda sedans seem to roll. Who knows, maybe we can add a 4 Runner at a later date and have 3 vehicles we love! Wouldn't that be sweet? :)

Ultimately hoping the dealer can diagnose all mechanical problems, then we will decide what to do big picture. Giving them a call now, hopefully they can see her today. They were really great and very helpful last time I went there, hoping for more of that today. Might get talked into some test driving again while I wait.........:D

PS: I knew this time would come, but man does it suck. For years and years and years, the truck and the Civ did great, with virtually no major repairs or scares. But they aged at an identical rate (both are right around 200K), and now it's all crashing down on us within the same 12 months!!! Take it from me, try to avoid putting yourself in that situation, it sucks!! :D Too many tough decisions involving money and sentimental value and about a billion other important factors in one period of time!!

But I will say, I'd take Civic stress any day over the truck nightmare. This is like a cake walk in comparison!!! :D

Good job on cutting back. Do you drive a big rig? If so, I can't imagine how tough it would be to not smoke. Kudos to you for any cutting back you can do.

What the heck is lemon creme with light banana slices all about? Sounds delish but what are we talking about exactly????

You were taking requests for Pie a few pages back.

Yup, have drove a big truck since 1993. In a brand new 2015 Kenworth Deluxe. Smoother than a caddy and can roll right up to speed. The A/C spits ice crystals once it is chilled down nice. All the creature comforts inside and it's ultra quiet compared to the rambling wrecks I have drove in the past. No east coast/west coast stuff,,just 4 western states which suits me just fine.

Ahhh, gotcha!!! Lemon creme with banana slices sounds like a delish pie to me, coming right up buddy!

I am jealous, your job sounds awesome!!! Cruising around 4 western states in a big rig?!?!??!?!? How fun!!! Which 4 states? WA, OR, ID, and CA? :burnrubber:

Perhaps I should try that as my next career venture?

TW, whatdya think? Should I be a big rig driver? :burnrubber:

    :D

Granted, I nearly killed us trying to merge in the Taco just because the topper was on (and am no longer allowed to drive the Taco when the topper is on as a result).

However, I see this as only a minor detail that can easily be overcome. Hell, if I can give up cigs, I can learn to merge in a big rig, right? :D

I should have known that YOU would find this news a reason to celebrate and be joyful, Keakar!!!

Only YOU can find joy in oil leaks, torn boots, and weird undiagnosed rattles.

Hmmm, I wonder if the Honda tech would be willing to post his findings on the thread???????????? You know, noahpete style!! That would certainly liven up the thread all over again!! :)

Nah, nobody is that cool. That's a special kind of cool. I'll hope for a nice thorough phone update that I can relay back to all my TW buddies to help us figure out WTF to do. I did ask for the same tech we had last time though, because he seemed to be passionate about repairing old cars rather than trashing them, whenever it's reasonable/cost effective to do so. I like that :D I remember him saying that his DD is an Acura that's ~12 billion years old and has ~5 hundred zillion trillion miles on it, even though clearly the dude could easily drive any brand new Honda of his choice. That says a lot. :D

Unfortunately, I really think this one may wind up being a no brainer. As in, I'm partly expecting to get a call that she needs like $2K in work, when she's worth maybe $500-1000. And this time, I would not start crying when I think of our driveway being sans Civic, like I did with the Taco. I would smile and visualize what is FINALLY taking her place. She served us well for many years, but it's getting to be her time to rest and relax. Or get souped up and repaired by some teen, so she can go on to live a new and much more exciting life than us boring 40-somethings can provide nowadays :D

Ya never know though. Could turn into a serious marathon of this  as we muddle through trying to rebuild the Civic on pennies. Stranger things have happened in this thread, that's for sure! :goingcrazy:

im sure we could find a way to do $2000 worth of repairs on the civic for around $14.95 after all its a Honda.

im betting the trade-in value on that civic will get you better then $1000

go trade it in on an 04 taco 4wd TRD so you have his and hers tacos in the driveway :ohsnap:

I know we can fill more then a few pages helping you find a replacement for it

Excellent point. The parts for that little tiny car are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cheap compared to Taco parts! They could probably take the engine apart in the Civ in like 5 minutes!

Hey, maybe we should keep it and take the engine apart to teach ourselves, then if the Taco scares us again, we'll know what to do! Kind of. I suppose the Taco engine is a little bit different than the Civic engine, huh? :D

It's so funny how teeny tiny everything is in there when you look under the hood after dinking around with the Taco the last 6 mths!!! Feels like I am playing with a Barbie car or some dollhouse furniture or something : )

Just saw your edit. I would LOVE to go trade it on an 04 Taco, you kidding?!??!?! But just can't happen, at least not right now. Any 04 Taco around here worth having is gonna be $15-20K. Not happening. Still recovering from the Taco's exciting $$$ adventures. A nice low priced Accord is about where we are right now, assuming the Civic really can't hang on any longer. That would be the hope though.....that the Civ can keep on keepin' on for a bit longer, so we can finish digging out of trouble from the Taco then go for what we really want (a 4 Runner) instead of an Accord. We shall see.............
