might be a stupid question but on other trucks I have owened there have been grease points on the ball joints. Is there any on the 14'? Seems to me they are all closed joints and the only thing I can think of to grease are the u joints. Any clarification would be appreciated. Everything is stock beside my ome 884 springs and 5100 Billy's.

From what I've read there are 5 zerks on the "propellor shaft" I've yet to crawl under and have a peek though.

Then they say Mobil 1 synthetic grease is the best.

Correct the only grease fittings are on the universal joints.

I crawled around one day and still could only find one. Gonna have to spend more time under there.

Thanks guys that's what I thoughts but wanted to make sure. I agree on the u joints they could have made them a little more assessable. I noticed on the one closest to the fwd the zerk is turned slightly so I can barley get to it. Might have to try and tighten a little which is the way it needs to go anyway so I can get to it

How did you guys grease the zerk fitting behind the heat shield on the second one on the fwd DS? Do you just remove the shield or is there another way?

^^ I've tried that. I can barely fit my grease fitting on the front fwd fitting. Do they make smaller diameter to reach small areas?

My cheap $20 flexible grease gun worked fine. Zerk 2 (front front of truck) was hardest to access even spinning the shaft You have to access from the right and between the shield.

There are two on the front (shaft will easily turn) and three on back.

I had to use a pair of vice gripes to get the fitting off the zerk. They don't pull off easily.

Any NLGI 2 grease will do.

That is what I use. Rear one on front shaft can be a little tough. Have to get shaft postioned just right. To the OP. I have not seen grease zerks on OEM ball joints and other front end components for at least 20 years.

turn the driveshaft and you can get it. Get a little rude with it if need be.

I find it takes me less time to remove the shield than it does to spin the driveshaft and try to fit the hose in there, but then I have very little patience.

I also don't do those as often as I do the ones on the rear driveshaft. I almost never use 4WD if it's not winter.

I see reference made to "turning the driveshaft." Is that something that can easily be done by hand?
(I may be making it painfully evident that I know nothing about vehicles)

Yup. The front shaft is not engaged unless in 4WD.

Unless you can get the lubricant down to the bottom of the ball joint it really doesn't do much. YMMV
