That's a lot of negative equity/cash to be throwing around just to have the latest and greatest. I am one to talk, but also know I suck with finances and vehicle purchasing, lol.

So you've dumped $9K just for the sake of having a brand new truck each year .

You should look into leasing. Sadly it would flush your money down the toilet slower..

I have the extra money and great income. I am buying a Miata ND in September. I don't finance cars or trucks. NO debt at all.

I plan on leaving little to my heirs LOL It's only money I worked hard to retire early and enjoy life before I m outta here

Hell we have watches that cost more than that.
What good is money if you have to be afraid to spend it? I was that way for 40 years. Now I can enjoy it.... We have more than enough to live so why not? I prefer holding the titles to my vehicles. If only to put them in our will ratber than have heirs dealing with leases. I am not 60 yet but I still think about LIVING and dying. As long as I still have a bike I am vulnerable.

Actually I want an Off Road as it works a lot better pulling the boat in and out of the water with the locker.

My husband and I are the same way.... Although, we are still working and have no children - which helps. ;)

I have to tell you a story (sorry, not tacoma related)....OMG... My father has been a tight wad all his life. Retired and 80+ years old claims he has all this money. He has a 30 year old lawn mower. The handle broke. My husband welded it for him, twice. I've told him many many times - "Dad, buy a new mower!!!". Dad decides to buy a cheap Harbor Freight welder. This past weekend, mower handle broke again. Dad attempts to weld it. OMG.....sets the lawn mower on fire, and not just a little fire either. I'm on the phone with him yesterday...."So, you've finally got a new mower??" He just laughs and says....Yea. This is the same man who will drive across town to get gas 2cents cheaper. God love him!

I find it classy when people throw out they have watches worth more than $5K. Great. I handle $300K a day at work. Who cares?

Lots of ways to insure a lease in case of death. Then you give more money to the kids. No excuse if you know you want a new car every year to not be on a lease unless your ability to piss away money brings you true happiness. Enjoy your financial freedom as much as you want. No need to burn the money away ignoring better ways to do it though.

Right here with you. 2008 prerunner when lived in AZ, stationed in NJ traded for 2011 4wd AC, traded that on a whim for a 14 Silverado which realized was a terrible decision and traded 6 months later in on my current 2015.

Agreed, my current truck is my dream 2nd gen, but despite all the negatives and positives of the new 3rd gen it is tempting. But trying to save for a house someday and realize that a new truck wont make me happy ;)

We lived like that well below our means. Small house 1700SF Saved and invested. Not close to being millionaires but we have enough Income for retirement and more than enough savings to where I likely won't tap the IRA. Retired Military Flyer and Commercial Pilot. VA Medical Wife was in nursing. We decided when we would retire when we could do and buy the things we like. No Lexus' here. No BMW No Benz. CRV MIata and a Tacoma and a Harley. Small 19 foot runabout Sea Ray boat. I blow money on cars and trucks. We don't go on trips.....(go figure)

House is MUCH more important..... Bought our first house and paid it off in 15 years when I was 37 Continued making the payment to this day and a few moves, buy and sell houses later all cash deals. Buy what you can pay off in 15 years, and continue to make the house payment to yourself Its like getting a tax free raise. Use that money to buy another home if you move, along with your home sale equity.

Kids are paying their own way through college. no free rides, unmarketable degrees, or party schools

Houses are nice. You'll certainly never be bored on the weekends. I am glad I own but there is certainly something to be said for all of the maintenance to be someone else's problem.

Im starting to realize this at the ripe age of 29. It also dosent help I got orders to the last place on earth I would want to own a house. If I ever get back to AZ you bet I would buy there, was only a poor airman when I was stationed there before. Hopefully the GF is a keeper and she helps settle me down with all my boy toy bad habits once we tie the knot if that ever happens. I will give up always having a new truck for my riding anytime, that is one non negotiable. MX is my therapy.

and yet I am too cheap to buy a 4X4 as I would never use all four wheels......LOL

AZ is great. We lived in LV awhile and sold out when they were paying stupid money for houses in 07. and moved to SC where everything is dirt cheap....Hee hee. Don't rush kids......Make sure you can take care of two before three or four.

Secret is hire a good builder and build a small home. I know people with 3000SF+ and don't understand the need for that much even with two kids. Our first was 1170SF. our last is 1700 SF. Big homes equal big bills for maintiance, utilities, insurance, and more furniture The only think I wish I had is a three car garage,,,,Oh well. The Miata sits in the driveway, The Taco gets half the garage,

Look into building versus buying. The costs vary by area. Here building used to be much cheaper but right now with the way building materials and skilled labour have gone up there is no way I could build a home with what mine has for what mine is worth. Plus, by buying a "used" home I can renovate things myself at my pace and maximize whatever equity I gain. We just had an appraisal done to get rid of our CHMC fees. I'm $90,000 up in equity due to minor renovations in 3 years.

Good for you....We had a great piece of property bought in 2000. We hired a builder who builds about six houses a year and was ONSITE everyday and did a lot of the work himself. So we got a quality build for $100 SF no shortcuts, solid wood custom cabs, finished garage, Hand laid tile baths, crown moulding, he just builds a house one way and does not charge for "extras as they were all included. This was 9 years ago. I keep in touch with him when we need something. Reminds me, I have to ask him for insurance purposes how much it would cost to rebuild today.

Very true, well played. However, we are in the 3rd Gen Taco Forum, so not really on topic.
