Well I'm not too new to TacomaWorld but I have never posted before. Anyways, I have a 2013 Tacoma Double Cab TSS and want to put new tires and rims on it. I've already done everything else to my truck that I wanted and wanted to save this for last. My truck is NOT 4x4, I just wanted to do it for looks. I don't know too much about tires and lifts and what all they can do to your truck but I really just want the tires to be a bit bigger and stick out a bit more for a wider stance. I just wanted to know if I should even be doing it to my truck; if so, what brand/size. I am only 16 so... but I would much rather get the higher end/better quality. Thanks in advance. Feel free to post pics of your setups!

Dissent Offroad Bed Rack over a softopper
The largest tires you can upgrade to without a lift and rubbing is 265/70r17 or 265/75r16. If you install a lift, your options are pretty extensive, just a matter of how much you're willing to spend, trim, chop and tolerate from a mpg reduction.

At 16 the least of his worries will be MPG, the important thing is get a good solid tires for the street to help keep the rubber side down.:burnrubber:
Go too big or too wide and you open up a can of worms for trimming and cutting that will forever change the truck. :sawzall:

Keep it relatively stock and get the best tires you can afford, you skimp on that whats the point?

Dont go too aggressive with the tire tread pattern either, Cooper, Goodyear, BFG all make great All Terrain street-able tires that will have great on and off road manners and grip.:sandwich:

I wouldn't want to trim anything at all or make any modifications that forever change the truck. Of course my truck would not be going off-road which I know makes you guys want to cry that i would do that and not even use it.... but I just feel like it's missing something (4x4?) but everyone I've talked to said go with a 3" lift and get 33s. My friend had it on his 07 but his rubbed pretty bad.

Yeah a 3 inch lift and 33's will rub like crazy, you will lose power and MPG pretty bad, if you must lift it... do not use spacers, there are plenty of quality options for not too much money, Old man emu with aftermarket springs up front and an add a leaf in back will be fine for a street queen.

stay with a 31 or 32 inch tire AKA 265/75/16, 265/70/17, they look fine in even a stock height application.

and of course i don't want to drop my mpg a ton but i know it is a consequence.
so you're saying a 3 inch lift with 31s or 32s would be best?

Take a look at the Hankook Dynapro ATM. Great on and off the road from my experience. Very good street manners and wear well, not noisy IMHO. Stick with "P" rated tires, not "LT"s, as they will ride rougher and reduce mileage a little more. For what you are describing P-metric 265/75R16 in your favorite flavor will fill the bill.

I'm saying stay stock... a lift with decrease MPG on the freeway, larger heavier all terrain tires lower MPG all around.

If you must lift it then use a level kit like 2 inches up front and leave the back stock to even it out.

really and truly i don't want to lift it, i just figured that would need to be part of it. i really just want some new rims and the tires to stick out just a little. which I'm not even sure if what i want is possible since i don't know much when it comes to tires.

go to your local tire place, tell them you want a slightly taller tire with a wheel that sticks out 1 inch from what you have, they will get you all setup with options to chose from.

If I were you, I'd get some Bilstein 5100s for the front, set at 1.75" and put some 16x8" wheels (4.5" backspacing) w/ 265/75-16s on it. That would give you a nice stance and make the truck look a little meaner...without sacrificing too much.

I ran that exact set-up on an 08 for a long time and my brother has that set-up on his 07. It works great and looks nice. Actually, lots of folks are running 265/75-16s on stock suspension.
