    Hey guys,

I'm going to take it in to the dealer but I'm curious to see if anyone else has issues with the auto trans. Bought the truck brand spankin' new and it's been shifting weird since I picked it up. I'm currently at just over 2,000 miles on it. I noticed it when I first picked it up; it almost feels like it's searching for a gear. Or it doesn't shift very fast...you can feel it shifting for what feels like over a second. When I'm coasting to a light at around 30-40, it's painfully evident when it's downshifting and it feels like engine braking is drastically increased. I was thinking I might be overanalyzing it or imaging things (even though my 1995 volvo shifts better) but then I was driving it home yesterday. I was coming off the motocross track in 100+ degree heat, with AC on full blast and the bike and gear in the bed. The truck felt like it was surging when I tried to cruise at 40-55mph. Also, when I lightly had my foot on the brake (barely engaging at all) it started surging. Almost felt like the brakes were pumping.

Anyone else experience anything like this?

Do you have a 4 cylinder with the 4 speed auto?

Never had problems with my 08, 11 or 15 transmissions. But I know some people had transmissions that were underfilled new from the factory, would have dealer swap out fluid and refill.

Same here as @dtopgun515 I'm at 21k now and it shifts the same...it's not as smooth as other vehicles but I got used to it as the truck handles everything I throw at it

It shifts like a truck. Took me some time to grow accustomed to it.

I took it to the dealer once just to get it checked out and they looked at me like I'm crazy after testing it...the weird part is - the harder you drive it the smoother it shifts lol

I've grown up around trucks. This is different.

I'm going to check the trans fluid level and then take it into the dealer if that doesn't help. Thanks for the advice everyone, especially that thread @dtopgun515

This is the V6, 4x4 btw.

an under filled auto tranny will definitely have more slip when shifting. That being said Tacoma autos kind of shift funny especially when downshifting. I had the reflash done on my 2009 but have had no problems with the 2013. When I owned Fords with C6s I always put shift kits in them. Problem is the general public prefers not to feel the shift. A firm shifting tranny will last longer and I prefer a firm shift. Boats mechanics will tell not to ease the throttle in to gear because it is the same concept.
