Ultragauge transmission temp

Ok -- so, that leads to me to some questions. Reading through this thread, it appears that people were using the 00 value early on for quite some time. They are all reporting trans temp values that appear to be "normal". What if they are not? What if they think they are reading Fahrenheit values when they are actually reading Celsius values?

I'm starting to think that the M-gauge codes for the trans temp are not correct on the 2012-2015. For those that appear to be getting proper values, what is your output value set to? Is it 00 or 10?

 

Another idea is to contact OP of this thread, he spearheaded the entire effort for UG to develop tran temps codes and was their beta guy

 

I'll do some testing and take some data points this afternoon. Once I get more numbers comparing the values between the 00 and 10 outputs, I'll send that over to him to see what he thinks. Problem is that OP has a pre-2012 Taco. So, he would be using different values than I am.

 

To confirm, you are programming the codes off of the sheet supplied by UG, correct? Also, I can take a pic of my X gauge when I get out of work.

 

I'm programming the codes based off of the data I see posted here in this thread. Specifically, I am using the following for trans temp :

Codes for 2012-2015 Trans temps *F:
TDATA: 07E02182
MTCH: 6182
RPOS: 2808
RCTRL:21
TCTRL:92
X: 0009
/: 0005
+: FFD8
Output format: 00
Left/Right is 31


This gives me a readout of about 119 when starting up the truck.

119*f when starting the truck is way to tall. Trans pan temps should be pretty much at ambient / water temps right at start up.

 

That looks about right. My starting temps hover around 120 - 130 degrees

I've never seem my temps below 120, even at start up

 

I should clarify that by "startup" ... I mean it sitting in my garage idling for the one or two minutes I was screwing around with the UG. Ambient is probably around 85-90 in my garage. We are under a 110 degree heat advisory here in Charleston today.

I just wish I had a secondary source to use to verify this temp. Is there a place I could easily shoot a temp gun to see if the readout is at least close?

 

Then the UG is reading temps wrong. After sitting over night the engine temp / trans fluid pan and torque converter fluid output temp should all be nearly identical and close to ambient.

 

Not sure if I should be concerned or not because operating temps are between 140 - 160 on hot/humid days, which I think is spot on

 

True, thats about what i see pan / torque converter output temps cruising on torque pro with my OBD.... maybe the UG just doesnt read below ~100.

 

That may very well be the case (not showing sub 100 temps) but thanks for putting my mind at ease

 

Mine goes below 100 in the winter and trans and engine temps are close at start up

 

If 140-160 is normal operating temp for the trans during hot days .... then mine is reading just fine using 00 as the output format (not 10 as someone recently suggested changing it to).

 

It can also get a lot hotter than 160.....and the 190 shown above happened with a tranny cooler

 

Concur. I just took a 5 hour trip. I wasn't hauling anything. Outside temp was HOT (in the mid to high 90s). Intake temp was reading over 100 on the highway. Transmission temp was between 170 and 180 most of the way. Reached a high of 186.

I'll be hauling a small trailer on the way back. I'm expecting to see some higher temps.

 

I towed this last weekend and temps were within normal threshold.

anything under 200 is normal in my book
