URD already has options available for the 2.7 and 4.0, the TRD was made by Magnuson and relabeled by TRD for private sale with a huge premium price.

Hack was done via Cell network. Bluetooth wasn't never accessed to accomplish all of this. If you watch the video no equipment was installed and the guys were miles and miles away while the driver was on the highway. No need to be within range of the car at all.

I saw this when Ford came out with Microsoft installed in the car years ago but the hackers couldn't control as much stuff as the Jeep.

Right, but the exploit was that Jeep is exposing some access to "dangerous" parts of the CAN bus over the car's built in wireless system. This is exactly how a Bluetooth dongle works.

Except the range of bluetooth is very limited...

Plenty of range for me to walk up in a parking lot, unlock the doors, flash a new key, and drive off in your truck.

But that's not the issue here. Stealing cars is super easy.

The fact that they can 100% control your Jeep from anywhere in the world is what makes this scary. They could just hold down the throttle, lock the doors, disable the brakes, and then just steer you right into oncoming traffic. You'd have no control to even shut of the engine at this point. I think you are missing out on the fact that they don't need to be ANYWHERE near your car to accomplish this hack. They could be in a different country for all you know.

I could give a fuck if they stole my car. If they drove me into oncoming traffic at 100mph...... That's where I might care.

Sure, I wasn't arguing that running a bluetooth dongle in your car is at the same severity as having access via cell. I guess my larger point was that any time you connect the CAN bus to wireless features, it creates a HUGE attack surface. But no one, even car manufacturers, seem to care about this.
