If USC would play a schedule hard enough to get the necessary BCS points they could play Florida. Until they have a schedule equivalent to an SEC team they will be stuck in the minor leagues.

    Yup...

The SEC is tough enough. I would like to see a decent non-conference opponent on every SEC team's schedule (like VA Tech for us this year), but we don't need to go out of conference to beef up our schedules. There's a reason USC plays Ohio State and ND... they need to get to the end of the year and say they beat somebody. The PAC-10 doesn't offer that.

IMHO, if you don't have a conference championship game, you shouldn't be in the BCS picture anyway. Get on it, PAC-10 / Big-10(11)!!

You asked "besides" four teams, one of which is the defending National Champion (and you call them overrated?!?!?). Then you throw in Ole Miss and UT.

So, you're basically asking "other than half of your conference, who is good?"

I dislike UT, and they're not great this year, but you can't honestly think they wouldn't be in the running for PAC-10 champ if they were in that conference. Not saying they'd win (I know they lost to UCLA), but they'd be in the top half for SURE.

Ole Miss was ranked #4 (too high), but lost to two SEC schools, one of which is the current #1 team in the AP poll, the other of which is South Carolina... who was #22 until they ran into Bama. (Their other loss is also to an SEC school - Georgia.)

So if you just dismiss the top HALF of the SEC when considering strength of conferences, should I dismiss the top HALF of the PAC 10? If I do that, only one of the remaining 5 teams (Stanford) has a winning record (4-3). By contrast, only 2 SEC teams have an overall losing record.

Not all 12 of the SEC Schools is in the running for the NC every year... but there's not a conference in the country that's as strong. The Big 12 was close last year, but even they are a clear second this year.

Hmmm. I think someone is getting angry!?!? It you want to bring up the past. I remember that LSU got crushed By USC. Since then Pete C. Has wanted to play an sec team in regular season!! Why don't they want to, because they are afraid of getting worked again!!!
I think I really made someone angry!!! Didn't want to rub it in.
Also I think that any one on any giving day can beat any giving team!!
Oh and if you are looking at the big picture what conf has the most titles overall in every sport!! Pac10 thanku!!

Not getting angry. Just making statements.

I don't look at a picture big enough to include, "all titles in every sport." This is a football thread. We should leave golf, swiming, rowing, etc. out of it. Feel free to start a "PAC-10 can kick your ass at anything (but football)" thread if you want.

My main beef with your point was that you basically said, 'other than half your conference, who is good?' which is a ridiculous statement to make. Take the top half of ANY conference away and you get a pile of steaming schitt.

Petey C. needs to worry less about the SEC snubbing him, and more about preparing for the nobody-PAC-10 team that seems to beat him every year.

So, here is the bowl game record (through 2008-2009) of the major college football conferences[IMG]
(based on historical conference affiliation). The first number is total bowl games. The second is wins; third is losses; fourth is ties; fifth is bowl game win percentage.

    Bowls Wins Losses Ties Win % SEC 348 190 149 9 .559 Pac-10 193 103 88 2 .539 Big Ten 209 97 111 1 .467 ACC 166 81 83 2 .494 Big 8 127 63 63 1 .500 Southwest 151 63 80 8 .444 Big 12 92 45 47 0 .489 Big East 76 42 34 0 .553 WAC 101 42 58 1 .421

Yea, any given Saturday, any team can beat another team, but I would pick an SEC team 9/10 times over the PAC 10 team.

Auburn went undefeated and got screwed out of the championship game by who? Media darlings USC and Oklahoma. Why? The media is on it's knees every year for USC, and USC would bring more money in than Auburn. Going back to 1992 SEC National champs were; '92 - Alabama, '96 - Florida, '98 - Tennessee, '03 - USC/LSU, '06 - Florida, '07 - LSU, '08 - Florida.

    From '91, PAC 10 national champs were; '91 - Washington, '03 - USC/LSU, '04 - USC

My point, the SEC has been a championship competitor MUCH more often than the PAC 10.

I would like to see the SEC play tougher non-confrence schedules, but I understand why they want a cream-puff in the schedule, considering how tough the SEC is. But honestly, Florida playing Troy and Charleston Southern? Might as well be playing the school for the blind and the deaf. 'Bama played Va Tech, UGA played OK ST when they were ranked #9, and ASU who was decent last year. I would LOVE for USC to play and SEC school every year. There's no way they could compete with the speed of the defense of the SEC. There's not denying that.
