The only benefit of Nitrogen tires is to the person selling you the stuff. He is both selling you gas and "giving you the gas". While he is at it ask about buying a can of STP or Marvel Mystery Oil. Both are just as useful as Nitrogen filling

Oh, I like Marvel Mystery Oil and keep a can around. It is handy for light lubricant and for dissolving crud in an old engine...and I have a black cat named Marvel, after the oil. And I do use the Marvel Air Tool Oil, available at your local retailer!

I had nitrogen in my last set of tires and they deflated in the cold and leaked. My current set of tires I declined the nitro and have never had a problem. Could have been more of an installer problem with the tires but why am I paying for something that has always been free?

    Its like bottled water

As seen on TV. But wait there's more. Call now! Specs say 95% purity.

You're right of course. I initially thought, since it's in there, why not keep it. It's been nothing but a pain, so not worth the time. Thankfully, I haven't paid anything for it and I have the cool Nitrogen valve stem caps to impress everyone. Going to top off with air now.

That is all Costco will put in your tires if you go to them. It doesn't heat and cool like air so the tire maintains a better constant PSI when in use, extending tread life. It is also a "dryer" gas which is really good for steel wheels, not really a benefit when running alloys. They say the moisture in air can rust the inside of a steel wheel, although I have never seen that and think it is more of a marketing pitch. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it but I do let Costco do it since they put the tires on. Can't beat free lifetime plugs and rotation.

No answer? I agree there are Schrader valves and then presta valves for like bicycles and high pressure tires. Never seen any other "special" valves. I would like to see a picture of this special "nitrogen filling valve" on the tire.

At the end of the day, we fine Tacoma World members have reached the following conclusions:

#1. Nitrogen is not inert and will blow your shit up or at the very least cause it to ignite. :(

#2. Nitrogen filled tires drops panties. :)

#3. Nitrogen costs money & provides dubious benefits over the air the unwashed masses use. :(

#4. Nitrogen is A-OK if you want to spend the money and use it to inflate your tires. :)

    BONUS

Tacoma World delivers helpful information AND entertainment all in a single nice convenient package. :)

Spend that money on an air compressor or something but nitrogen filled tires is a scam

Umm... No. Nitrogen is not immune to the gas laws. It will expand and contract with heat and cold exactly like regular air will. Roughly 1 psi every 10 degrees.

All comes down to good salesmen. Hopefully they will not get a good lobbying consulting firm or we will all have to use it.

Also, I would love to see someone evacuate their tires before putting N in. :)

    And thats wrong....

    (pressure)*(volume)=(# of moles)*(gas constant)*(Temp in Kelvin)

Regardless of nitrogen being a bigger molecule and thus having fewer moles of gas(albeit a tiny difference) in the tire, a 10 degree drop in temp will cause the same drop in pressure.
