ADVICE! Suspension replacement.

Man... I need somebody to tell me the best thing to do.

My Truck: 2008 Tacoma Pre-runner SR5 (Rugged Trail)... no lift.

I know about the leaf spring recall... but I want to replace the rear leafs and all 4 shocks.
I want the truck to ride nice.... and I want some quality stuff. My budget is $1,200 to purchase this stuff. What should I buy?

I've looked at almost everything, and I'm down to OME Dakars for the leafs, but I read it will raise the read 2.75" inches. So, if I buy Bilstein 5100's... will the truck ride right and look right?

Also, is the correct part number for the OME leafs CS047R? I don't want to screw up and buy the wrong ones.

Any recommendations?

 

I am in the same situation, my leafs are getting very weak, and one rear shock is gone. I am thinking it might be a good time to upgrade to and OME kit as well. I am wondering what people have for suggestions and if anyone has been told by Toyota how they will be compensated for new springs when the recall is released. Also, will proof of broken springs be needed? mine are not broken, just getting very soft.

Hey Matt,,, I went ahead and bit the bullet. I bought the ome dakars leaf springs for the back, and bilstein 5100's on all 4. They have been on my truck now for 4 days. After doing that and getting an alignment, I realized this was the best choice. My truck rides 100% better, however it's still a little stiff from being new.... Just needs a little time to break in. I explored every possible option, and this is the best buy for the money you're spending. If you plan on keeping your truck for at least another 5 years, I recommend this set up. ////. Besides the performance aspect, the additional 2.5" inches of lift looks killer, and doesn't look over the top. Also,.... A little advice here: you don't need to extend your brake lines. Stock is fine, just connect them when the truck is on the ground after everything else is installed. Some people are saying you need to buy an extended brake line kit for this set up.... That's not true.

Regarding the Toyota recall,,, I have no idea. My leafs were not cracked or broken, just weak like all the other stock leafs. The OME leafs are double the steel of what Tacoma stocks leafs are.

 

Thanks for all the replies. I would not be into flexing, just looking for a nicer ride and maybe a lift . A friend did just give me a set of his original bilsteans though so I may hold off.

If anyone has any info regarding the recall payout I would be very interested to hear.

 

I just spent $650 with shipping for 4 billy 5100s and progressive aal and installing now. will show some pics when I am done before and after. 2015 dble cab long box.
Should get few inches of lift and better ride and be able to hold a bit more tongue weight when towing my boat.

 

Right @geekhouse23 ... My bad. If you are driving crazy terrain, then yes.... You might need extended brake lines. Standard driving, no. //////////. The bilsteins your friend gave you... If they are the yellow and blue ones used over 50k miles, they might not be worth the effort of putting them on. There's a big difference between those and the 5100's.

 

Total auto can do 5100 set for 350.

 

So are you guys getting Dakars and billies then leaving the front stock height? If you go all out with the Dakars and billies, why not throw some new coil springs into the mix to lift the front a bit? Only like $170 more.

Also, if you replace your leafs without there being a problem with them it is on you and Toyota will not do shit.
