Best bed covers/tonneaus

I've got a 6 foot bed and definitely will be purchasing some sort of cover for it. I've had a Leer topper before, on my old silverado. Not really looking for a full topper again as it makes access to the back of the bed a hassle.

With that being said, I'm looking to purchase, most likely, a hard folding tonneau (bakflip or similar) but could be swayed towards a hard cover. What are your experiences? What is the easiest? The most secure from theft?

 

I keep these two in the back of my truck at all times. Work just as well as a pop n lock.

As secure tonneau covers go, I highly recommend the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite... It's lockable, fairly secure, and provides easy access to the bed when you need it.

 

That one looked nice as well, although it looked like the last section doesn't fold up as with the bakflip

 

I just sold a Jason tonneau cover (rage model) that came with my taco when i bought her, and i loved it. only reason i sold it was because it limits what i can fit in the back.!

 

It was super easy to uninstall and install on new guys truck! took me about 30 mins

 

The only thing I don't like about one piece covers is they limit what I can put back there. Occasionally I have to transport multiple bicycles which would be tough with that type, if push came to shove I could leave the cover at home.

 

Exactly, I eneded up buying a thule tow hitch bike rack to leave my bed free, when i go campin. since they were taking up a fair amount of room!

I have been looking around as well for covers. I was really drawn to the bakflip G2, But a couple of weeks ago decided against it. Found that some of the gear I carry is taller then the walls of my bed so now looking into a softopper.

 

your security system could be bought with a pack of hot dogs.

 

Softopper. Sides and back fold or roll up for easy access, whole thing folds down forward for complete access, or it comes completely off with two pins. Total weight is less than 35 lbs. Had mine for a few weeks now and it's the best option by far IMO. Only shortcoming is keeping the rear window clean without scratching (water bottle or canned air) and from cracking in freezing weather (just be careful).

Edit - security is akso a potential issue but having stuff out of sight and inconvenient to grab is most of the battle. Getting into a locked canopy or hard tonneau is easy for a scumbag intent on taking your stuff.

I have a simple cheap roll cover

Its perfect for what i want, keeps elements off stuff when i want, But i can roll it up in the matter of a minute or two and load a dirtbike in the back. (FYI that link is for a 5ft bed, there are the same thing for the 6ft bed)

Undercover + Pop and Lock is the most secure you will get.

 

Really like the softopper but with the Canadian $ going down by the day and no Canadian stores its getting a bit to rich for my blood.

 

Not the tailgate I'm worried about securing, it's the top that someone gets into with nothing but a box cutter!

 

I have the A.R.E. hard tonneau and love it so far

A friend of mine had a hard folding tonneau at one time (can't remember the brand, I'll have to ask him again - I think it was extang) ..

He loved that you could fold it up when you needed a little more room for hauling something, but I also remember him saying several times that the older it got, the moving parts squeaked.
