what do you guys think. my friend is selling me his sig p226 with nite sites and rail for $500 w/ 2 15 rnd mags. Only has 20 rounds through it. I was thinking about getting a blackwater edition but would cost me twice as much but it has a 20rnd mag. Also, what do you guys think of the p229. I was thinking about getting the tactical version of that as well. Please give your opinions. Thank you in advance.:D

Anything over a 10 round mag is illegal in the state of California! The sigs are a good choice. You should be happy!

Yea, $500 seems fair. Usually the sigs start out at $800. Where is your friend? Does he live in Cali too? You are going to have to do the transfer through an FFL.

Private party transfer is usually around $20 - $30 plus the $25 state DROS fee. You will both need to be at the shop, in person. Leave the mags at home. You can't own those mags by law, but not everyone listens to the law. Your choice, you have to make the call on that. Just check with some local shops and see what they charge. I do all my transfers at Fort Courage Armory in Simi Valley, CA. Tim the owner is really good and his prices are fair.

My dad carried one for over 20 years with the FBI and swears by them. Honestly though every shooter is different so make sure you get some range time or at least handle it before you buy

Haha very true. I just read through my post and I think I got distracted. I was just trying to tell you to make sure you are comfortable with it, it feels good and suits your shooting well!

I love Sigs, but I dont want you to spend $500 on a gun that doesn't feel comfortable.

my friend has a 226 for work and carries a 229 for off duty. does it make a big difference? they almost both look the same but having a compact would be nice to conceal.

I have only handled the p226 so I cannot say. Especially if you want to conceal it, I personally find it very important for the gun to feel like an extension of your body rather than foreign object. Sigs are my favorite handgun but just make sure you pick it up and get a feel for it before you buy!

Plus that is a hell of a deal so as long as you like it you should pounce on it!

Any of the Sig classics are top notch pistols. The only difference between the 226 and 229 is the 229 is a compact. Absolutely zero difference in quality or shootability.
