I just bring someone that has a winch and all the goods .

If I bought a winch today I would just pick up a snatch block and a tree saver separately.

 

I'm with Gage in this. Put your own kit together. Save a lot of $$$ that way.

Mine is an old, heavy duty soft sided tote bag with:

3-4 D-shackles
30', 3" wide tow strap
10' tree saver
snatch block
heavy leather gloves
long screw driver for tightening/loosening shackle pins

I also have a TG tire repair kit and a first aid kit in the bag. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

 

Yep, get a tow strap so you can extend the reach of the winch in needed. A tree saver. Shackles for everything and a snatch block.

 

Also setting up your kit for multi purpose is key. That winch line cover can easily be a thick blanket. I've got 3 30' straps, a snatched block, 2 shackles not including the ones on my truck. I've also got a 3' cro-bar but that's more for popping cv's than recovery...

 

It's always a good idea. Didn't use one last weekend...derp. it's easy to overlook safety when you are worked up over a recovery. We used my blanket for rock rash protection of the winch line since it was tight over some rocks.

 

Well my blanket is an old u haul blanket that all my recovery gear is wrapped in I try to keep it all in one place so when i need that stuff it's allc right there.

 

You still have the 50' or 30' tow strap right? Have two shackles for that?

no its not needed.

One of the pros to synth line is it doesn't transfer energy at all. SO if it snaps..it just falls.

He gets the kennel and put in the annex..least from what ive seen.

Mine go in the kennels under the truck.

 

Yup, it takes up lots of space but him having his known space is valuable at times. He sleeps in the crate at night inside the annex. Once he gets older and I can trust him more he'll have reign outside given the campsite. He sleeps in his crate every night at home so it's nice to have that for him when things aren't normal.

 

Yea..kinda nice to just let the dogs loose in certain areas like Goose. Don't have to worry about them chasing someones truck down the trail

I really liked the idea of just leashes, like cables off the back of the truck..but that turned into a disaster with two leash nerd dogs...haha

 

Also, Idk Ben, your wheelers order musta been a fluke. Or the compressor was out of stock or something.

Mine shipped today, Dan even emailed me personally because they didn't have a red rear brake line, just smoke brown. Like i care what color they are..but still. I love Wheelers!

 

Yea if I can wheelers is where I go for stuff.

Is Venice cool with car rides yet? Took jax a month or two before he loved jumping in and didn't cry the whole way there.

 

I also carry Ash's kennel and I suggest taking it regardless when camping. Occasionally Ash gets a bit weird and having a secure place to keep him up helps. Come night it is convenient to put him in the kennel and let him go to sleep rather than attempt to keep track of him at night.

In the tent I leave him out. He often sleeps to the side of me or at the door. With the RTT I just carried him up and he did fine. It's a bad habit to get them into but he wouldn't have had much problem being moved to the annex like Marc does. A lot of people leave their dogs in the cab of the truck. Ash does fine when I do this, he doesn't chew and usually he uses the opportunity to take a nap.

For quick securing I have a 30ft check cord that I tie to a bumper or slider. Works wonders and by far one of the better investments I have made. I have recently picked up some small cable to tie between two trees. I plan to attach this below my hammock to the trees and then his leash to the cable so he has room to move up and down the cable zip line style. I have not tried this out but it would be useful when you have to secure your dog but want her to have more area to roam.

It all depends on your dog. If she is one to run away I would suggest looking into a gps tracker. Ash has been taking adventures lately and I myself have been contemplating one just to be safe. I have seen two lost dog signs this year out in the country and I would hate to be the third.

Gonna go get bed liner quotes tomorrow. Pulled the plastic thing to try and install the tool box on him. Decided bed liner might not be a bad idea. Hoping its not too expensive.

No parts showed up yet..kinda mad the shims for the diff aren't here yet..Im gonna be cutting it CLOSE on truck prep for both rigs.

I haven't seen many tacos running around the black hills, at least built ones, mostly stock, like mine... for now.

 

Stock is fine man! One of mine is stock. Plenty reliable that way!

Unlike my other heavily modded one...spend more time on jack stands or parked now then driven Rather sad actually...cause id rather drive it..

 

I'd rather have sas'd but that's to rich for my blood right now. So I'll just lift it, and shove some 35s under it.
