Its the effect that light inside the cab has on your eyes at night. Try driving down the road at night with a dome light on. Obviously some are on the same page as me anyone who mentions the dash light being too bright is saying the same thing I said or the guy with the blue dash lights he followed my logic perfectly. Its not the color but the brightness.

On coming lights do have a harmful effect ever had another cars brights in your eyes? There you go. Maybe this effect is less obvious in certain driving conditions for example driving in a city with street lights vs driving on a country road with no light beyond your own head lights.

Maybe my eyes just prefer low light and yours prefer more light.

Also ever see the military flash lights? They have red lense this is because it is least visible from a distance and because it harms night vision the least by night vision that's the eyes natural night visual abilities. In Freightliner semis they have red night time map lights.

In the other post I was questioning your statement about the color red helping maintain night vision in regards to dash light color. Didn't get the logic since when driving you have the light from your headlights and usually oncoming traffic to negate any benefit red lights would have on one's nightvision. In this response you are saying the color no longer matters and it's the brightness which I agree with.

Was trying to remember why I took these photos lol

I fixed that crack thanks to the local junkyard

And here is a lesser of quality photo but it shows a comparison to the stock radio (which is on the list for a change too)

    20150625_005358.jpg

All in all I never found it too bright

The orange has kind of grown on me. I would love blue, but would never attempt taking the thing apart.

Much easier than I thought it was going to be. A good soldering iron and good solding tip make it easy. I did the clock in blue and I do find that too bright for my liking.

Not a great picture since it's daytime. The blue is more blue at night, not like the teal in this picture. But, it is very bright and does not dim with the dimmer.

About the same. The picture makes it look like it might be harder, but it is not. I'll try and get another picture when it gets dark.

this wont work, toyota changed the wire pin out from the 05-early 11 than on the new ones so the cluster wont read the rpms or speed

you can only change the clock on the 09-14 truck. those have leds behind the lcd screen for the clock.
older models have the color on the plastic and the clock is like a weird green/blue color

I tried. But it's tough getting a good picture of it. Still looks better in person.
