[noob here] what trim would you suggest if...?

    - you live in Northern Cal/NV - Tahoe area. (snow)
    - you do mountain biking and plan to carry several bikes including 29ers.
    - never do off-roading and don't really have any plans to do so. so mostly driving in highways, streets, paved roads and trailheads.
    - it's only gonna be your sole everyday car for work and travel.
    - you don't really haul big heavy stuff but just groceries and the occasional furnitures.

i was thinking 4x4 since i live in the boondocks and snowy area.
double cab since it's going to be my sole vehicle and i got some friends... sometimes! :p
i still can't decide if i want a long bed or short bed but all that really matters to me is that i NEED it to fit a 29er mtn bike. will a short bed (with tailgate pad) suffice?
and since i don't really do any offroading stuff, will trd sport be enough for my needs especially for my area?
i have a subaru forester that came with heated front seats, heated side mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer.. which taco trim/package have these?
my subaru only has 4 cylinder and i'm fine with it but for a truck for my area, should i go for a V6? btw it will be automatic.

any suggestions for this noob would be greatly appreciated.

*btw i'm not sure yet if i'm getting a 2015 or 2016 model. and not really in a rush of getting the truck (will probably buy last quarter of the yr or the first half of next yr)

long bed, 4x4, sport (2016 model).

don't deal with the hassle of having the tailgate down to fit a bike on a short bed.

I would go with a double cab long bed if you plan on having the bikes in your bed.
The TRD sport is really only something you add on if you want the upgraded suspension and the hood scoop.

The SR5 I believe comes with a tow package and may be a bit cheaper than the sport.
So I would say SR5 or TRD sport.

The only trim package that comes with heated seats at all is the Limited trim, which is I think $39K on that leaked sheet for a long bed. You are much better off paying for a lower trim and then adding custom leather seats later on with heating elements for about $1,000 bucks (check out the Katzkin group buy thread). I feel like the Limited package is just for guys who have money to piss away. The TRD models is where all the good benefits are. The limiteds are just a few upgrades for a heck of a lot more money. I mean they don't even come with power seats!!

Obviously V6 4x4. I'm not sure why they make so many 2WD trucks. If one needs a truck one needs 4WD.
Making a 4-cylinder truck is even more stupid.

PS if you don't plan on buying until then, you will likely be stuck with a 2016. At least in my area, there are only a handful of 2015's left and only a few in the state that are TRD sport long beds. Especially if you are picky on things like dealer options or color, you won't want to wait until there is nothing left of the 15's.

2015 trd sport and trd off road do not come with heated seats. 2016 trd it is an option (you can get seat heaters), but have cloth seats. .

According to the leaked price sheet, the TRD's Premium & Technology upgrade package (HG or HH) come with heated front seats, dual climate control, Sonar Parking, etc....

double cab long bed 4x4 in SR5 trim, or TRD Sport trim would be best IMO.

This pic is of my first taco, a 14, dclb SR5, prerunner. I have since upgraded to a 15 trd OR access cab 4x4.

Dont get those running board steps, they suck IMO. they sit to high and tight to the cab to be useful.

Poke around on this site, it has tons of information on the new model.
I believe that heated mirrors come with all trim packages. I'm not sure about a windshield wiper deicer though. I would say most cars don't have that. You can always upgrade to heated windshields later too if you really want fancy options. I'm picturing an actual in windshield heating unit. I think most cars now have heated interior vents that blow at the windshield.

I've lived in many places with lots of snow and cold. Not once have I needed windshield wiper deicers LOL (nor did I know I had heated mirrors until last year). The Ru does have you spoiled. Just make sure certain things are necessities rather than just convenience things. But of course that is common sense.

I just feel certain car options get very expensive, very quickly and in some cases it's cheaper to buy custom options later if you really want them. Like the leather seats. I want heated leather seats, it's a must have for me. Total want and not a need but it's a must have. But I'm not buying a limited that costs $5K more when all I want are the seats and I can get them after market for a fifth of the price. So I would just get that list of must haves and then see what you can do after market and how much it will cost you to buy and install or do it yourself. Could save some coin.

    Long bed 2wd.

Don't know why everyone is saying 4wd when it will pound pavement 90% of the time.

He lives in a mountainous area with a lot of snow. I say 4WD for that.

Lived in CO for 10 years. I wouldn't have survived with a 2WD.
Especially not when hunting, even if I was driving well groomed trails.

I've never not had a 4WD truck, so I can't imagine not having one. Truck things = 4WD IMO. But yeah if it's a pavement pounder you have a point.

2WD also don't tow as well. Not sure if he's got a trailer for those bikes or other things. I just view it as 2WD you restrict yourself a lot for having a truck. It's a lot of money to spend to be restricted.

Not to hijack and this may be informative to the OP but does anyone know what is standard on the TRD Sport? What sets them apart from the SR5 besides LED lights? Obviously the OR has the OR goodies but compared to the sport I can't justify spending the extra money for that hood scoop, TRD "ROAD" shocks and LED lights... am i missing something?

Sport adds the hood skewp, color matched grill surround, side mirrors, and rear bumper. Also has the little turn signal indicators in the outside of the side mirrors. Also adds bilstein shocks vs the SR5 ones. Maybe more, cant recall

DCSB is plenty long enough to transport 29ers in the bed if you're using a tailgate pad. If you would rather use one of those fork mounts that you can mount in the bed rails of the truck, you'll probably want a long bed. I started with some fork mounts in the bed rail and switched pretty quickly to a tailgate pad, it's just so quick and easy! With my 26" mountain bike in the bed rail fork mount of my DCSB, I could still close the tailgate with about 1" to spare. With 29ers, I think you'd be pushing your luck (depending on bike geo of course).

2 wheel drive. Why would you want a 4x4 if you don't drive offroad? It's a commuter vehicle

Has anyone heard about the Tacoma have a heated windshield? My wife's highlander has that and it works pretty good.
