Beats me. Look. Your asking for help, and Im trying to help ya. I have been in and out of these engines and KNOW those plugs arnt as good as the OEM plugs. Have you changed the fuel filter or cleaned the MAF yet?

Toyota's are known to not like Bosch products. An aftermarket Bosch O2 sensor tends to cause codes within 6 months. Why you may not have had known issues, who knows. It could just be a fluke. I know this from experience, Chris knows this from experimentation.

The MAF is a very sensitive component and doesn't like dirt. Just because it doesn't look dirt doesn't mean it isn't. I would have used that excuse when I was a kid just to get out of taking a bath if it would have worked. Also check for a loose vacuum line.

No one is disrespecting Chris, he's a big boy. The OP has a legitimate point, but it is very true that even though BOSCH makes a quality product there are more than a few auto manufacturers that for one reason or another have had compatibility issues with some of their products....

I agree with BOSCH making a quality part(s). It seems they have little to no issues with domestics versus foreign design.

Be sure to gap the plugs at .040 to .042 on each side. Also use anti seize on the threads. :)

Sounds just like my 99! the check engine light came on, rough idle and loss of power. I ran it for about yrs and finally decided to get it fixed. Replaced MAF sensor and SHES BACK! No more loss of power or rough idle!

Good to hear! :) Being as the plugs are 4 years old, it shure couldnt hurt to change them. :)

I know this thread is a couple months old but I am having a similar problem with my 99 tacoma. it has a 3.4L and an automatic transmission. It idles rough to the point it would sometimes stall out whenever I am stopped at a stop light and i have less power and my gas mileage has gone down significantly. I replaced my fuel filter and spark plugs (all OEM). I finally took it to the shop i always go to and they replaced the idle control module which stopped it from stalling but it still idles rough and my power and gas mileage still sucks. My engine light has never come on during any of this. I'm going to try cleaning my MAF tomorrow but is there anything else it could be?
    Thanks in advance.
