I'm pretty sure all parts of emissions are warranted to 100,000 miles. Take it to another dealer. (as everyone else said, I agree)

Go to a different dealer, The labor rate should be in the 90 dollar hr range, how do they come up with 500?

My dealers all charge $125-140/hr.. $500 is high for 2 hours of labor, way high.. but I've not seen anybody else say their dealer charges only $90/hr.

That's cheaper than the local shops, still, by $30/hr.

The exact same thing happened to me once. Had them do the free oil change..got home only to find a small drip in my driveway. Opened the hood and there is an empty quart they had used as a funnel. Garbage ass customer service.

No, I have not replaced the cap. Only reason why at this point is because I am going on this dealership's word that while doing a smoke test on the fuel system, they saw smoke coming from the top of the gas tank.

What's next? Get my truck, which is still under warranty, repaired. I never asked if it was smart to go to this dealer. And no, I will not go to this dealer because they are convenient if they do shotty work. If there are reputable dealers in the region that will honor warranty repairs and not give me the run around as to why they can't help... I'll be a happy customer. R&H is most likely the next step of this process.

My point of starting a thread on the subject was to see if I was asking too much of a company to troubleshoot a warrantied product without charging and hourly fee to do so. The universal opinion seems to be go elsewhere, which is what I will most likely be forced to do. Right now, I am simply looking for other fellow taco owners who may have had a similar experience on insight on how they've handled it, or how they had it resolved.

It's not asking too much, but for that dealer, it apparently is. Most have resolved that issue by going to another dealer. If that doesn't work, they go to Toyota Corporate.

All Toyota dealers are required to honor warranty repairs, it's part of their contract with Toyota. You could drive to California and get it fixed if you were so inclined. If it's a warranty repair, it's a warranty repair anywhere.

Well, realistically if it was the fault of a mouse and they have to do all the work to find it, it is your responsibility, not Toyota's, if everyone goes by the book. That said, on a vehicle this young under warranty, a good dealership that cares about customer service would find a way to make this a warranty job regardless of what they find under there.

This is the exact reason of my frustration... the dealer I bought it from is being a prude stick in the mud. I have until Nov 18th to get another emissions test, so no rush on that front. They've jacked up my vehicle on multiple occasions, yet have no room to budge on possibly 2 hours of labor for a warranty job.

Next step will be try R&H or Hanover Toyota. If I were to drive out to California to get it fixed, I'd never make it there. I'd get to Flagstaff and never leave. Been there a few times and could easily settle down and enjoy the laid back kinda life, even with a slight emissions leak

    Okay.

Well good luck, I hope to read next week that you got it fixed and had a good experience elsewhere.

Thank you for your insight. If it is a mouse that caused it, I'm fine with paying for the repair, it's the troubleshooting to find out that I'm hung up on. This is the type of scenario where I don't know if I'm being unrealistic in asking them to do this, or not.

I could argue both sides, but being where I am in this dilemma, I'm somewhat bias on the outcome... :)

Man, I wouldn't trust anything that stealership told you. I'd get a new cap and get the code cleared. Then see how things go from there.

Pay attention at least. Smoke test showed a leak near the tank.

    Stop fixating on a nonissue.
