    Couldn't you just crack the tophat bolt while the truck is on the ground and then slowly jack it up? Wouldn't that be easier?

    How is that not the same thing as what he said earlier?

    Of coarse you need to unbolt the lca from the spindle to get the strut out but how does it matter when you take out the top bolts? Or am I missing something and don't know what y'all are taking about

    How does this happen? Nothing you do makes any sense. That sounds extremely fun though. I used to do it all the time back in the day when I drove my 94

    Things, stuff, and whatnot.
    Some friends and I were lowering one of their AWD Eclipses several years ago. They were dicking around taking the strut apart to put the new spring on, talking. None of us were paying much attention until I realized they were taking the nut off the strut, but didn't have the spring compressors on yet. About the time I realized it, the thing came apart and the top plate hit me right in the mouth. Put a hole through my upper lip from a tooth and a pretty good scrape on my neck. I was laughing about it, and the guy who's car we were working on was freaking out, asking if he needed to call an ambulance or take me to the hospital. I've been hit harder, so it didn't really phase me. Needless to say, I pay very close attention when swapping springs out now.

    you understand. Yes, it's virtually the same thing. Like you and i mentioned, he would still need to unbolt the lca to have enough room to remove the strut. He's talking about the top shaft nut. Yes, he would remove the top shaft nut and lower the strut to remove the tension. Then it's easier to remove the top hat (which is not really necessary unless you are putting a top plate spacer in). I'm telling you, 20 minutes per side.

    I'm not to sure, the mud was about 2 1/2ft deep and sticky as shit with little rocks in it. so I think when when I got pulled out mud and rocks got in there and when I took my 2nd run I put that axle in a bind and the rocks and mud caused it to explode

    What? You don't disconnect the UCA doing this method. The lca yes. You jack up the lca with strut attached. Unbolt the center nut holding the strut to the top hat. Then lower the strut assembly slowly. Then unbolt from the lca lift up and pull out. Done.

    This is how I've done the last 3 setups on my truck.
