    Yeah as explained before dependent would mean that led is on "depending" on switch position. Its on/off with the switch. Independent means its on based on your wiring (typically to the dash lights) making it "independent" of the switch position.

    I went with lower independent so the text lights up with the dash and upper dependent so the top lights up when i turn it on
